Tim Howard

Mate come on, Emre Can was trying to shove him all over the place and he stood there strong as an ox unable to be moved but a "little shove" from Ings is enough to shove him out of the game for a few seconds? Barkley missed the header because his man lost him, Kone would of had that :)
Point is that the man allowed to use his hands to grab or at least punch the ball should be the one claiming it. He has a good 2 foot reach advantage on everyone else on the field in his own box and the keepers are protected like an endangered species if there's any contact so there's no excuse. Yes Barkley messed up but Howard shouldn't have lumbered the responsibility on to him to begin with

Hands up non Americans who are defending Howard? I bet most if not all of you are our American blues am i right?

Seriously though, yes Barkley missed the header we get it, but Howard was like a statue (apart from a shake of his body) he did not even make an attempt to go for it.

Its easy to blame a player for missing a header but our goal keeper needs to fecking own his area. At least jump or punch it or something sure if Inges clatters into him its a free kick out.

Howard for me was once very good for us but lately he is making mistakes especially with positioning you would expect of a young goal keeper.

Guys, he's 5th in saves, 4th in clean sheets, and has a save percentage close to 80%. He has made a mistake on Sunday when he should no doubt have claimed that corner. However, he's had a pretty good season. Watch the highlights from around the league, and no doubt that you would say Howard is directly responsible for 60% of those. Every single keeper in the league makes mistakes that lead to goals.

He's got to be one of the next to be replaced due to age, inconsistency, etc, but he's had a pretty good season so far. Many won't see that because of that ingrained opinion.
He's crap.

Ings doesn't touch Barkley. Are we now making things up to defend him. Its a completely mis-timed header from Ross. Unchallenged too.

Barkley was at fault as far as im concerned. Not only did he lose his man (a player who is shoulder height to him i might add) but that was yet another defensive error which led to them scoring the opening goal, through a completely mis-timed free header. Woeful attempt. I can't be bothered going on about it to be honest mate. Our opinions differ and thats fine.

If you watch it again, you'll see Barkley did get a little nudge from Ings. Not much, but enough to put him off his jump just as he was setting himself. It was clever by Ings, and I'm not even sure it was a foul. Even if Barkley was at fault, it's irrelevant, because Howard should have used the considerable advantage of being able to use his hands, which gives him a far greater reach than any header, rather than passing the buck onto Barkley.

This. Didn't see this before I just posted, as it's pretty much what I just said.

First it was ' A shove ' and now its ' A little nudge '.

Clutching at straws springs to mind. Ings has his arms out yes. Because of the angle it appears he is shoving Barkley. He doesn't.

Like I said, whether or not Barkley was fouled/shoved/nudged/whatever or was at fault is irrelevant, as Howard should have taken responsibility, as a keeper who can use his hands, instead of passing it onto someone else who can't. If you can't see that, I CBA commenting further and my dinner's nearly ready anyway, so enjoy the rest of your day and don't spend too much time defending Howard.

Why not go deeper and ask if those sticking up for him are also devout Christians ? Be just as valid!!

Seriously, those sticking up for him are Evertonians first and formost, place of birth wont be coming into it.

We're not asking for anything spectacular like flying out to the penalty spot or the edge of the box from corners catching everything in sight but there is not even a debate on the fact that anything in the 6 yard box should be claimed by the keeper.
Obviously he might not be able to come and collect whipped in, fast flat corners but the one in the Derby hung in the air for ages.

Howard bothers me; he's prone to bad decisions and that's a trait you can't afford to have as a goalkeeper. He doesn't command his box the way a top 'keeper should. Everyone makes mistakes and it's a fact that a 'keeper's mistakes get highlighted (because they lead to goals), but the odd blinding save he can occassionally make doesn't make up for his unreliability, IMO.

Birth place does come into though. Only Yanks really that think he's any good. Either because they see it as a patriotic thing or they haven't got a jar of glue..
