Tim Howard

There can be no question that Howard should have cleared the ball from which Ings scored.

His inability to deal with crosses into the box is a major flaw in his game and something he needs to address. Biggest bloke in the team with the advantage of being (legitimately) able to use his hands, would no doubt get the benefit of doubt if there's 'contact' when going for the ball .. and yet he invariably is transfixed to his line. I don't understand why he doesn't boss crosses into the box, why the box is not his.

Yeah but we'd all like another Southall.

I´d settle for another Martyn.

Timothy doesn´t give me any confidence when the team lines up at the start of the game.

I think on top of the lack of control of his area, he is also quite erratic and makes bizarre decisions. He came out to cover on two attacks in the derby....one he tackled with his feet and could have conceded a peno when it seemed he could have taken it with his hands, and another he went with his feet again and conceded a corner when it seems he could have come out to collect with his hands at the strikers feet.

He is not as awful as some make out, and sometimes makes great saves.....really great saves....but I´m tired of him now really and look forward to new blood in the nets.

...no idea who!

You're right that it was a free header mate. A free header for Barkley. If you look at the reply, there is not one Liverpool player within a space covering about 5 yards where Barkley completely misses the ball. McCarthy and Naismith were also within that space where Barkley is nodding at Oxygen.

Sorry, but the cross dropped three yards from his goal, and right in the centre of the goal, so he should have come out and claimed it, like any decent keeper would have done. As a keeper, you can't expect your defence to win every single header, and if the attacking team wins a header from such a short distance it's almost certainly going to end in a goal, so the keeper's job is to command his 6 yard box and make sure he gets there first.

Barkley missed the header because he got a little shove in the back from Ings, which the ref missed, but he shouldn't need to win a header in that part of the pitch, Howard should have come off his line and claimed an easy catch. He never does though, which is why we concede so many goals from headers within the 6 yard box.

Brad Friedel was a great keeper, Spurs wanted someone who could save them a extra 6-9 points a season, which beyond doubt Lloris is doing.
Problem as ever is that we don't have £10-15m to spend on a keeper.
Plus I cant be too aggressive to Howard because I did say I would persevere for another season given we needed a CB, RW/LW,No.10 and striker.
Then if he says on his line on basic corners he will cost us points like yesterday!

Rubbish analysis of TH as always! blame other players he is the one with the Hight and the gloves not RB - but I conclude Howard on crosses is a Coward!

Ings doesn't touch Barkley. Are we now making things up to defend him. Its a completely mis-timed header from Ross. Unchallenged too.

Barkley was at fault as far as im concerned. Not only did he lose his man (a player who is shoulder height to him i might add) but that was yet another defensive error which led to them scoring the opening goal, through a completely mis-timed free header. Woeful attempt. I can't be bothered going on about it to be honest mate. Our opinions differ and thats fine.

Yes in Southalls days and Gordon west who top the list we used replacemet keepers - I can Rember Southall out for an age , and Bobby Mimms played well, and Andy Rankin actually filled in for Gordon West when injured or if HC thought he was off form - we need to either try Robles again or get a better Keeper in January!

Guys, he's 5th in saves, 4th in clean sheets, and has a save percentage close to 80%. He has made a mistake on Sunday when he should no doubt have claimed that corner. However, he's had a pretty good season. Watch the highlights from around the league, and no doubt that you would say Howard is directly responsible for 60% of those. Every single keeper in the league makes mistakes that lead to goals.

He's got to be one of the next to be replaced due to age, inconsistency, etc, but he's had a pretty good season so far. Many won't see that because of that ingrained opinion.

Mate come on, Emre Can was trying to shove him all over the place and he stood there strong as an ox unable to be moved but a "little shove" from Ings is enough to shove him out of the game for a few seconds? Barkley missed the header because his man lost him, Kone would of had that :)

So your saying Tim hadn't even got to challenge an rs player to get the ball ffs thet makes him more of a sh£ehouee than I thought he was.lets just be honest lids Tims just pony.

There is no one there to challenge. When the ball comes in there is 3 blue shirts in front of Howard. McCarthy is on the post, Naismith is........... well i don't know what he is doing tbf, certainly not marking anybody. Then there is Barkley, who loses his man completely and mis-times an unchallenged, school boy stuff, free header.

Its quite obvious now that Barkley simply should not be marking anybody when defending set pieces. Thats not the first mistake he has made and so with the evidence shown in the last 2 games, we can safely say it won't be the last either.
