Can't believe the keeper is being held to task here, if ross had of put a sprint in he wouldn't have got a block in but he would have hurried Matic into hitting it earlier .

How do you cut the angle down from a 30 yard drive by being on the six yard box ? yes you move off your line on a one on one a keeper should be alert for any event the modern keepers do not how many times do they dive and tip the ball out for a corner nowadays????
Any long shot the further out you are the bigger the space behind you -fact!
Again No blame to TH on the goal , but I watch now , and it is a modern trend for Keepers to stand out on the six yard line!

First Joey to cut down an angle you'd have to know what it is. The further you come out the more you can cover the goal due to distance. If you don't understand that I'd recommend not talking about goalie positioning or goal keeper in general. Most people on here understand cutting down angles by coming out. Keep studying you'll figure it out sooner or later

Taking the proverbial or what!

Ok you got the width worked out how about the height with a ball fling in the top corner over the keepers head?
Or work the angles out with playing the keeper at centre half that will close the angles down completely - I know a WUM when one like you comes along!;)

Joey, have a lie down :)

I

I spoke to my friend who was a reserve Keeper at Oldham made the reserves packed in via injury ( he is now67) he states like me in the old days Keepers never stood on the six yard box positional you take up your position on every individual attack on merit it just seems a new way modern Keepers do it, and observe TH he does it with a few other modern Keepers, not saying he could have saved that thunderbolt on Sat although standing there invites a speculative shot!
I'm unsure whether you're agreeing or disagreeing with me.

I'm not sure an Oldham reserve gk from 40+ yrs ago is the best rebuttal of the validity of what top class goalkeepers do these days.

Though it wouldn't be hard to come up with reasons for the change. For example modern balls move more irregularly through the air and most of this movement occurs as they slow down. So if you position yourself further off your line when facing a long shot, you not only decrease the size of target the shooter is aiming at, you take some of that "late movement" out of the equation

I remember big Nev and Westy marking the middle of the six yard line to guide the centre of their goal, now you go on a bout a new lighter ball - that is more likely to fly over you head to the top corner, a goalkeeper job has not altered all that much other than they get more protection now, The friend from Oldham who maybe have made it due to injury was adamant standing on the six yard line constantly is not text book positioning e.g. he stated its every attacking situation that determines your position as a keeper i.e. moving around in the right direction in any situation- He agreed with me that to just stand there most of the time is going to invite a long shot at you as you leave both corners exposed on the deck, and in each top corner inviting for an attacker to shoot from distance!
I reiterate this is not criticisms of TH some -shots are impossible to save, its about the modern trend of Keepers in general for instance how many shots get tipped around the post nowadays for a corner I see most Keepers jus palm it ouit forwards as they are positionally lost- I rest my case mLord!
