Yes on MOTD he was on his six yard line your video does not play ok!

Watched it at least 10 times. He was about 4-5 yards out when the ball was struck. His first movement is a step forward still inside the the six yard box. The ball is heading straight for him at impact, and his view was blocked by Jags. Then it bent perfectly away from him into the side netting. He was positioned slightly to the left to protect the near post.

His positioning is not the issue...the closing down is the issue. It was a perfectly struck shot. Nobody saves that unless they are out of position.

Sometimes you just have to tip your cap. This video from behind the keeper tells the story. He has the briefest of pauses due to Jags blocking his view.

Cross purposes error I was relating to Naismiths 2 Nd goal left footed shot , and their keepers positioning!
TH was on his six yard line and unsighted as you say it was a thunderbolt into the top corner never stated it was savable

Quick Summary - Positioning:
greenbal.gif
Know the location of the goalposts
greenbal.gif
Stay on line between the center of the goal and the ball
greenbal.gif
Move far enough off the line to cover the angle to each post
greenbal.gif
Be aware of balls over the head when way off the line
greenbal.gif
At sharp angles, always play outside the near post
Mistakes to Watch For:
redball.gif
Not checking the goalposts frequently
redball.gif
Staying planted on the goal line
redball.gif
Standing inside the near post on sharp-angled shots

Be aware of cheese on toast! Also have arms like an octopus!lol

I sit in the Lower Gwladys right behind the goal, it was an absolute worldie that gave Howard no chance no matter where he was standing.

I'm normally one of Howard's biggest critics, especially when it comes to him letting long-range shots fly past him, but looking at that goal again and again there really was little he could do because the pace of the ball made it a missile that went right into the top corner. Blame should instead go to the midfield for letting Matic get the space he had in the middle of our half.

I don't get all this six yard nonsense. As ilikecheese showed in his last post a goalie is supposed to come to cut the angles. It's the same for a hockey goalie, they only move back towards the goal line the closer the opposing player gets. It's the same for both sports.

His positioning was spot on, it was a class shot into the top corner and no defenders closed him down.

Nothing to see here, move along.

This.

Even down to the sitting right behind it, it was an utter missle.

How do you cut the angle down from a 30 yard drive by being on the six yard box ? yes you move off your line on a one on one a keeper should be alert for any event the modern keepers do not how many times do they dive and tip the ball out for a corner nowadays????
Any long shot the further out you are the bigger the space behind you -fact!
Again No blame to TH on the goal , but I watch now , and it is a modern trend for Keepers to stand out on the six yard line!
