Tim Howard

....we might need a replacement but it's simply wrong to blame Howard for every defeat. I'm not sure he was particularly at fault for any of the goals yesterday. As soon as the Austrian boy hit the cross for their 3rd goal I said to my son that's some ball and I couldn't blame Howard for only getting fingers to it. I'd be more concerned as to why the player was free out wide and nobody tracked the goalscorer.

I'm afraid there's more wrong than the keeper.
Agreed in part. The third goal: Coleman should be closing that winger down - standing on him not 4 yards off him; Howard should punch that cross not flap at it (he looked like he wanted to avoid colliding with - I think - Mori who was going for it too); Galloway should be more alive to the danger at the far post (as should Naismith too).

The thing is though, half of those errors are due to one thing: Howard isn't commanding and he makes his own defenders nervous and panicky when a cross of that quality comes in. So, ultimately, it is down to him.

One way Tim?

The commentators on the television both thought they were just amazing goals. For the third, the color commentator specifically said on the replay that he didn't think Howard could have done anything more to prevent it.

A large portion of our supporters has already made up their minds about Howard, and everything that happens involving him they'll see in the worst possible light. I don't think you'll find any neutrals who would single out Howard for blame today.
The same pundits on MOTD who when BUTLAND tweeted in their 2nd goal was not a fluke as that player does it every day in training - one pundit quipped well Jack {Butland} you need to stay on your line more!
Why o Why that is the only way they indirectly criticise Howard is beyond belief as he is letting goals in for fun!

I'd take Butland over Howard in a second, but to be fair, Butland made zero saves today. Your point stands, however. Howard needs replacing now. He's not the only cause of our complete defensive incompetence, but he's not helping anything. We're not going to be threatening the league this season, so I just hope Martinez does his homework and gets the replacement right.
He needs changing all season starting from next week!

if we were one of the media darlings, his poor form would be massively in the spotlight. Remember Mignolet getting dropped last season? he was nowhere near as bad, he missed one or two crosses, but actually won them games as well. But their huge influence in the media got him dropped. If we had any sort of authority, the point would have been drummed out that we'd be about 4th now if it weren't for howard and it would bhave been brought up every week.

Its not rational as DM could have signed Butland for 3 million dithering Dave let him go in favour of keeping Tim!
To buy him now would be impossible - he is going to be Englands next No 1 keeper well done Davy Moyes!

i and many others were banging on about it at the time. he was so so highly rated and we had jan mucha as our backup with howard about 34 - where was the risk in £3m? He was young and english and would have commanded a profit even if it didn't work out. But we clearly needed a better backup at the time.
