Tim Howard

... who frequently post that Tim is the worst keeper in the prem and that we'd be in the CL if we had Begovic, Schmichael, etc. That's where the comparison comes in.

Honestly? We're six points out of the top four at present. I would wager there have been at least three points he could have given us had he, individually, performed better. Possibly more.

In a season of fine margins he, individually, has probably been and is likely to be the difference.

Is it any wonder we have a goalkeeping problem when our goalkeeping coach Inaki Bergara was a 3rd choice keeper with bilbao then moved and got some first team football his team were relegated with a record 79 goals conceded. But at least he speaks Spanish.

High balls and crosses are definitely a weakness of Howard's. And set pieces seem like a bit of a weakness, too (although that's team-wide, not just Howard). Even with all those weakness, though, we are still right in the middle of the pack in conceding goals. If Howard were truly as awful as is made out, we'd be conceding at Newcastle levels.

Do you not think though that with the likes of Stones, Barry, Coleman, McCarthy etc we should be towards the 'less goals conceded' end of the scale? He isn't the cause of all goals we cncede, but he has been responsible for a fair few this season.

Honestly? No. For every goal you can point a finger at Howard and say, "He should have done better," you can do the same with one of them. We've had an extraordinary number of defensive mistakes this season, all across the side.

I mean, yes, we should be doing better defensively. And if everyone stopped switching off three or four times each match, we would be. Howard's bailed us out of as many of those mistakes as he's made himself, though (not all of those 60+ saves have been routine dribblers, after all).

Exactly! I mean is it any wonder Chelsea sacked Mourinho after the players turned on him because they found out he only played 3rd division football in Portugal?

I don't think it's because he's American -- I've never been a fan of Landon Donovan, for example, and was very critical of his time at Everton (although that was before I started posting here). It might be that having some geographical distance from Liverpool lets some of the American posters look at things a little less emotionally, though. Plus, of course, everyone knows Americans love statistics.
You were critical of Landon donovans time at everton but defend Tim Howard?! My oh my have you got some backward standards!

Haha yeah if we had De Gea we'd be brilliant like Utd are..

You're trying to be funny but actually you're a fool. Utd are not great but look where they are in the league and where they finished last season. Do you think they'd be there without a great keeper. The game at old Trafford last season was an example. We had Utd on the rack and De Gare produced 3 or 4 unbelievable saves and they won the game.

People give out about the starjumps from Tim Howard but that is actually good goalkeeping as he is making himself as big a target as possible and makes it more difficult to get the ball past him.

I think he is a good shot stopper, always has been.

I think he is weak and not dominant enough in the eighteen yard area...always has been.

I think that Jagielka has provided the strength and commitment in defending in our area and we are missing him badly and none more than Tim Howard.

AJ you're clearly an intelligent person, thank your for pointing out my lack of humour and intelligence.

If you could now advise the Everton board of directors how we can afford a goalkeeper of De Geas quality i'd be eternally grateful as like you I'm feed up of Everton winning nothing.

Regards, DD.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Defenders always make mistakes. You can't compare losing your man at a corner or losing a header (both of which happen to all defenders) to literally never coming for a cross in your six yard box. We could not realistically replace any of our defenders with players who would improve our team/results. We could easily replace Howard for not too much money.

Butland was available for £6m in the summer. Of course we can't afford a De Gare level keeper but a just a decent keeper would make a massive difference. Howard makes too many mistakes that cost us points. I've played in teams with bad goalies, they effect the whole team.

Wow...really?

So Stoke sold Begovic to Chelsea and also wanted shut of Butland in the same transfer window? Where's this come from?

You ITK AJ?
