Tim Howard

What I do not get is Baines has been told he will have to fightr for his place where as that love child of RM just walks back in his side when he is sometimes playing Crap!

Joey, you have raised a point there that we have all felt with other players as well. Some times the decisions by RM seem to be questionable.

I think RM does not want to be seen coming out and criticising players but talks them up. Could behind the doors it is very different. But no doubt in my mind TH needs to be replaced asap.

Democrat or Republican mate?

Your friend was talking about 'career stats' in the Premier League. My point is stats from way back are no longer relevant. Last year's performance set the scene.

I think Howard's personality is Martinez's weakness.

We'll hopefully see tonight what Robles can do and take it from there.

Howard is not fit for the Premier League any more. We have to get shot of him. Simples.
So how do we measure what's relevant then. It's all arbitrary. Two years ago the same statistics that sucked last year were great including saving 3 of 5 penalties. His numbers this year are back up again, but the same people that use last years against him refuse to recognize the uptick. Stats only tell part of the story, but they're used so much for framing one's argument when it's convenient and ignored when they're not.

His last 5 premier league penalties have gone in. Whilst I accept you used to be able to bank on him saving one a season, I dont think its correct to hail him as the stopper he once was.
He's not. He's just not as bad as some say either. Seeing Robles against West Ham last year, and even his technique this year when he won don't inspire any confidence in his ability to save pens was the only point I was getting at. I'm fine if Robles gets some games, I just would rather have Tim against the penalties if it came to that.

I accept that you prefer Howard. My question is why? Surely no saves mean his technique is flawed too?

he wasn't very great was he. but he was great throughout the tie to even get us there - he's sound by me.

For penalties? Howard has a track record against them. Robles doesn't, and he's looked poor against them for the most part of what we've seen. I'd ask you the same question if you prefer Robles? Why?

I don't prefer either in a shoot out, what I'm saying is that Howard hasn't saved any of his last 9 penalties faced. Maybe its another facet of his game that's gone, but his reputation is now unfounded. They're as bad as each other at penalties.

Maybe, but where did you get 9? He's 3 of his last 9 if we're going back 2 seasons now.
