Tim Howard

I may have overstated my point about 'most keepers' if we're talking about today. But he was great up until their 1st you have to give him that, Tim Howard from the last season would've probably let in 4 or 5 today. Not defending him or saying that we don't need the replacement though.

He was, but it's immaterial what he did before he made a basic goalkeeping error to concede a goal.

I was actually thinking about bumping this at half time to say how well he'd doen this season, 3 games in and hopefully he's knocked the basic errors on the head.

Good job i waited till full time really.

He did Doug , but the vital first near post mistake let us down, I thought his positioning was spot on till that moment , but overall City were just to good for us, their keeper made a mistake from a corner unpunished -
We have just seen the standard we have to attain, and we where a country mile from it, the only player I was very disappointed with today was MaCarthy who seems immune from being substituted!
Pleased for the younger players who came in today for us, but look at City's bench it's full of star players , and we think one playmaker is all we need - They looked like Champions elect today, as we tried our best, disjointed for TH , but if you leave. Gap like he did on your near post it's gift, and. Game changer, TH saved well today in the first half, his porsitoning looked far better then a relapse, that Jack Butland was linked to us an age ago when DM was interested in him? I regret we never signed him when he was cheap!

Can't disagree Joe. Out gunned plain and simple today and it's no ones fault.

So far City look like they've got the big between their teeth, I reckon we've just got done by the champions myself.

Yes they even took their foot of the gas at times when they scored, look at their bench Doug it's rediculous we did our best , RM has again come out to defend TH - but he has to get those bad positional mistakes out of his game that near post one was schoolboy stuff Doug!

Not great Joe but given that angel most keepers shift over for the cross at the last second, looks bad but if they're glued to the post and don't try and stop the cut back they look just as bad. No win situation there.

TH was no angel Doug , but he got his angles wrong, he did make numerous saves City on that form were formidable! towards the end we tired , and they were queing up to score at times, we did our best, but they set the benchmark with the finances you need to play like that !

CLOWN.

utter clown, why martinez re-instated him to the team, i have no idea in hell. how he's kept his spot for months and months after is even more shambolic management.

people can defend him, but the fact that we ask questions about virtually every goal he concedes tells it's own story, doesn't it? it's not an agenda, he's made an abundance of howlers throughout his career.

the first goal wasn't a one-off which is what pees me off so much - he does it every season. a keeper of his experience really should have learned by now.

about 3 or 4 were at fault for the 2nd goal, including him. i don't get the "it's not his fault the defender's didn't follow the runner" excuse. that's the whole point of a goalkeeper to provide the last line of defence if the defence is breached. this isn't basketball!

he made a half arsed attempt and moved his head out of the way, can you imagine schmeichel doing that? all the best keepers spread their body stretching their limbs and making their frame bigger. howard did a weird pencil jumped with his arms by his side and move his head out of the way of the ball.

Feel sorry for Timsy Mimsy, he's had a class game but for that moment of mindfart and now he's the scapegoat again... :( It's tough to be a keeper, but the great bearded one will bounce back from this one.

exact same thing went through my head.

the thing is he's making basic saves and that's what i'm accepting as a good performance now. he didn't make one save all last season where i went "yeah that's a real top save", he also didn't win us one single point last season and instead cost us about 15 imo.

Goalkeepers are paid to make saves, i'm afraid it's not good enough to make 3 or 4 saves and then make an elementry mistake which totally changes the course of a game like he did again today. And i'm being kind here in not really blaming him completely for the 2nd. It's an area of urgent need next summer no doubt
