This is how it could end up

It wouldn't if the right owners took over

It could if the wrong ones did

Again, not an argument to not sell the club, but I think too many people just assume it'll be sunshine and rainbows if Kenwright sells, which is not guaranteed. The point remains that out of all the clubs that have been sold only 3 (Chelsea, Crawley and Man City) have had any prolonged success. There's been quite a few examples of clubs who have gone the other way (Blackburn, Portsmouth, Villa etc)

And again, I'd rather the club be stable in the top half of the Prem rather than scrapping lower down because the new owners don't know what the fudge they're doing

If/when the club is sold, it has to be carefully considered and the buyers backgrounds need to be fully inspected

It's Kenwright's job to find the right owners, we've just got to hope after all this time trying to sell the club he knows the difference between the right and wrong buyers.

I'm not going to get into an argument here because there's a special thread for this sort of stuff

I'll just say

No. The club isn't going to die with Kenwright in charge. We might slip down the league table slightly when certain players leave, but we're not going to die.

For the love of Pete

Right, I'm off for a brew. It's too early for Kenwright nonsense. I can still taste my toothpaste FFS

We're losing money every year at an unsustainable rate every year and he's completely unable to generate the income needed to halt the slide towards the trapdoor.

It might take 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, but unril he sells up, this is a sinking ship.

Really??
And we hadn't even started talking about blackburn's and villa's takeovers

What's wrong with Villa's? Their manager spunked millions on **** players and now they're paying for it and the chairman, probably rightly, is refusing to put his hand in his pocket so quickly. If Moyes had the money that O'Neill had and also Lambert then we'd almost certainly be looking at a top four finish every season.

Granted, Blackburn's was and is a total disaster.

I think for every good takeover there's been an equally bad one.

For Chelsea (regardless of the constant sacking of managers, their new owner got them the Premier League, FA Cups, Champions League success) think Blackburn. For City think Portsmouth. For Villa think Hicks & Gillette (who tbh weren't that bad, they provided **** loads of money which, again, was spunked up the wall by the then manager) or Notts Forest (who incidentally may be back in the Premiership next season).

This year we lost £7m and with the new TV money next year it should show a profit of say £20m. So you're opening comment is completely wrong mate.

Ok, so those of you know me on here know that I live in Brighton. I want to tell you what I did on Monday, my cousin is a Tranmere Rovers fan and they played Portsmouth. I haven't seen him for a while so I decided to make the short trip to Fratton and have a few pints with him and watch the game.

A few weeks ago I admit I came on here having a go at Kenwright etc the usual blah but after an Afternoon in the company of Portsmouth Football Club I have changed my mind. Not long ago they were getting taken over, decent money spent, won the FA Cup etc etc now look at them!

I couldn't even pay by debit card for a match ticket (£20) they wanted cash in hand! No ale in the ground (although there is a roof on the visitors section these days) boys it was grim, I didn't recognise a single one of their players and they were very very poor although Tranmere weren't any better.

All I wanted to get across was I would sooner have Bill in charge than end up like Portsmouth it was sad to see "Wrexham on a Tuesday night" for them, however I'm concerned over any takeover now.

Great post.

We all have to face up to the fact, that when our club is taken over, then the takeover COULD go pear shaped & we COULD go the way of so many others who've ended up in the hands of people who were either wrong 'uns or made terrible decisions.

In fact the odds of us ending up worse that where we started are high, let's be right about it.

However, should the fear of change be enough to stop us wanting the current useless incumbents to remain? Not for me, the most worrying part is that we're totally reliant on Kenwright on finding the next custodians.

And with the increased tv money will come new signings, new wages and increased contracts. Will the money go towards a new stadium? Will it [Poor language removed].

Watch how much the "other operating costs" increase this time next year.

Take your head out of the sand and see Kenwright for the snake oil salesman he is.

Do you think our agents, players etc won't realise this?

We spend all our current money plus money we don't have on our first team because every body else in the league has more income and out spend us so we have to to remain even vaguely competitive.

With the new TV money, everyone will up their spending 20 million so we'll have to just to remain in place. If fulham and sunderland are whoever start doubling the wages to their youth players or whatever because they have more money then we'll have to do it too or not keep a hold of our kids.

The problem isn't that we're a poor club, we're not, it's that our competitors are all very rich. Giving all of us extra money will make no difference to our relative poverty.

The only way it will make any difference is if we sell high and buy relatively cheaply. i.e. Fellaini £30m 2 replacements £20m etc
