2025/26 Thierno Barry

Can we not support Barry the way we do Michael Keane? e.g give him 8 seasons of being utter toilet then when he turns out a handful of not completely crap performances (still shipping goals left right and centre though) start calling for him to be player of the season?

Nah for Barry we’ll just write his entire career off after 13 games of PL football.

I feel sorry for him, not had the easiest start and we are notoriously tough on strikers. Fwiw I do think he is improving in games.

I'm not sure that should be aimed at Barry - he's doing all he can (as you/the tweet/others here have pointed out), but we're once again not playing for a striker in so many games. It's definitely better than it was under Dyche, but you can count the games on one hand that he's been used as an actual outlet for more than "hold it up/head it down to someone behind" and we never cross to him.

It's weird though as we did that last year with Beto as the 9 and it was okay, we created a bunch of chances, but we seemingly are unable to do that now, even if we have better players.

I agree with you about supporting Barry but I certainly have missed the support for Michael Keane imo he has received a huge amount of unfair criticism on here.

I think in time Barry will prove to be a really good footballer when he ages a little and gets physically stronger.
I am not sure he will ever be a prolific goal scorer though.

He’s had a few scruffy goals disallowed for marginal offsides and handballs etc. and he’s had a few tap ins that he’s missed. For me that just means eventually the goals are going to come. He could easily easily be sat here on 4 or 5 pl goals after playing exactly the same. I’d be more concerned if he looked like Chermiti/Rondon/Maupay etc. where it looked like they’d never score in a million years.

People can only comment on what they've seen. If he improves then brilliant, but it's not a case of a slight improvement. For him to be our main striker for years to come, we need a transformation from what we're seeing now.

Zero goals, zero shots on target in 13 games I think is a more damning statistic.

I like him though and want him to succeed.

It’s not harsh to say that it hasn’t gone well for him so far, let’s be clear. He’s done some decent stuff, I thought in the circumstances against United he was excellent, but he just doesn’t look remotely dangerous and you’d have to say that’s not ideal for a striker.
Agree with that 100%.

This sounds like Dyche, the run is good if you add a few wins in there.

Personally I don’t think he looks like scoring, he’s just way too clumsy, especially in the box. Even his ‘goal’ yesterday. A miscontrol and then a mis-hit shot. Summed him up tbh, he’s not a Premier league level striker.
