2025/26 Thierno Barry

He's done better with each game, that's a fair shout. Not sure I'd say he's "played well". Would he walk into the team of any of the six teams below us, never mind the thirteen above?

Methinks it will be a long process with this guy. Short term pain for -potentially- long term gain.
And that’s how it generally is for most teams. There were comments after Sat about how Newcastles signings have all been hits. But hall, livramento and Gordon were all long term signings. Gordon barely played in his first 6 months and hall and livramento played bit parts in their first seasons at the club as well. They were built in to the team slowly, to get them up to speed and ready. Unfortunately, we can’t do that as our other striker also isn’t prolific.

I’m not worried about Barry, there is talent there. My worry is Dibling, and not because there’s not talent, it’s because unless we are completely chasing games, he isn’t getting built in to the team at all which is a management decision.

Dibling is not a concern. We've copious wide players, you described long term signings for Geordies in your post. Effectively an "Anthony Gordon" equivalent. Need to make your mind up - can't change the narrative to suit.

FWIW , in my opinion, Barry will nit be a success here. The stats so far are damning, I don't see the potential.

What do you want him to do mate?. He barely gets any chances to try and score. Remember when we had DCL who couldn’t score for weeks even months on end and he was missing every decent chance he got, well Barry isn’t even getting those chances. We’re barely getting any balls into the box.

Yeah, but he was still getting minutes to build him into the team. When I say barely played, I meant in comparison to when he was with us and starting every game with us making a big thing about him that summer.

It’s not a major concern either, it’s just Dibling is a bit like Gordon in that he played lots of first team games as a starter before us but has since had 72 mins in coming up to half a season. Personally would like him to get more minutes and hopefully that starts to happen. As otherwise we end up with a player that has effectively had a year out of competitive football.

I want him to score goals, as he was bought for. Surely that's obvious. If you think he's decent then fair play. I beg to differ. I'm not gonna vilify him, I want him to do well but he doesnt look a player.

Let's not forget the kid is being asked to shoulder a huge responsibility here. We've seen more established players fail at being the main striker at Everton.

Beto really ought to be taking a long hard look at himself as well. Limited as he may be we've seen players of similar middling calibre (being kind) such as Bent and Straq delight in their opportunity and give it their best.

But he's not getting loads of chances to score and fluffing it is he?

Apart from the one chance at Sunderland i cant think of many where i thought "should be burrying it".

Are we going to have a go at ndiaye and kdh for not creating more chances
Well, Ndiaye had a very poor record of assists at least up to the end of last season...

What are his figures this term?

Honestly cant believe what i read on here at times lol.
Watch any random game and you'll see most forwards do this. It doesnt always result in a goal but you see it all the time.
Why are Everton forwards exempt from this lol.
I admire people's positivity - and I don't see much in harm in giving him a run ahead of Beto, seeing as though Ndiaye clearly isn't going to get a go there - but the lad is hopeless.

There's nothing there.
