2025/26 Thierno Barry

Got no pace this lad.

The best he can hope for is being an auld fashion target man who nods it down to supporting players. He’ll need to toughen up substantially for that though.

Whoever scouted this lad can I see your reports please and what conclusions were drawn to establish him as a worthy signing for Everton.
The problem is us.

It always is.

Doesn't matter who we get up front, they will be crap, we do not set ourselves up for a striker to succeed.

Put Lukaku in this team and I guarantee he’ll have had a shot on target in 3 months.
He would have about 3 goals. (Because he is a much better player)

Nothing gets put in the box ever. We massively overthink everything. I just want to see us put some hard low balls into the box every now and then, all it needs is a player to get a toe on it then.

We absolutely don’t help our strikers with our painfully slow build up (or complete lack of build up under Dyche)

But it’s also true we’ve signed some dreadful strikers - from Tosun to Rondon, Maupay, Chermiti, Beto and seemingly Barry. DCL is a terrible finisher too.

Poor recruitment and trying to do things on the cheap have cost us.

They have certainly been crap for us.

Most of those players had better goalscoring records before they came here though, Barry in La Liga, Beto in Serie A, Tosun in whatever the Turkish league is called, even Maupay could generally manage more than ONE goal in a full season.

Lukaku was the last proper good one, that was what, ten years ago? We have set up pretty much the same way since he left regardless of who the manager is.

Its a combo of a lot of things but I do worry that just dropping a striker into our team who is better than what we have got (not hard of course) improves us that much as we would be still be relying on a moment of brilliance rather than good team play.

I remember people getting annoyed when we didn't make a move for Gyokeres before he went to Sporting. He probably would have ruined his career coming here and would be on loan at Malmo or someone right now instead.

We are just so bad at this.

Simms wasn’t the answer, but he doesn’t seem to be any worse that the pair we are currently relying on.
Can only assume his sale was for accounting purposes and whatever his sale brought in immediately, was better for the books than deferred / on the drip payments for Chermiti and Beto.
That and / or it’s just another example of our atrocious record with strikers.
