I don’t know how he can progress with the tools he has. The lads had 143 first team appearances, and has trained daily for probably 15 years. The things is isn’t very good at tend to be things you don’t get better at. And how in this time no-one has taught him to attack the box once he’s laid a ball off, or it looks like a teammate might put a cross in I’ll never know. He may learn where to be on the pitch for maximum impact, but he won’t suddenly be able to run with the ball at his feet.I have to disagree. I think he has something about him and he'll get better with time but probably not here. Lack of patience plus physicality of the league in my opinion. Which is admittedly worthless
Everyone said Onana had a super high ceiling and when he was consistently anonymous for us said he’d flourish in a better team. He’s been utter garbage and is exactly the same player as when he came here. Hasn’t acclimatised and improved one tiny bit.
Obviously they are both highly talented footballers, but sometimes players just don’t have “it”. Imagine Barry with Richy’s desire. Or Onana with John McGinns determination.
I would like to see both do well, but they’ll only do so by finding their level elsewhere like you say. They won’t improve technically, and they don’t have the intensity of character needed.
