2025/26 Thierno Barry

Outside of the game he seems to have the right attitude training etc, and must be training well to be getting ahead of Beto who works hard by all accounts.

However when he is subbed, or makes a big miss or two like in our previous game his head goes completely. His head down for the rest of the game was either very concerning or performative.
He is just very childish and annoying to me, the way he reacts like he is the worlds best, which is all in his head. He Should not even be starting. I will none stop keep saying it till i am blue in the face. His goals have covered up how bad his performances are, and he only seems to think that his job is to win headers. I want him if/when he plays to actually do a hell of a lot more, not stand there like a staute, run round, get involved in the game, try to win the ball, not let people go past you like your not there etc

I'm sort of in-between. I see the benefit of playing him over beto long term and do believe he's improved a lot so far, he's taken his goals well and it that was to continue I wouldn't care how his overall game is... But he's a bit poo

Get the frustration with him as has moments looks decent winning balls in the air ect hold up. Just hope this season being difficult will pay off for him next season. Beto will gone by next season imo wont want to be second choice amd can see him back in italy

Seen a lot of people in this thread suggest that Barry is rubbish in the air, does nothing, no point in him being on the pitch etc

Almost like people are letting their emotions cloud their objectivity? Surely not...
Has he scored a headed goal? Or even had a decent headed effort at goal? They all seem to come off his shoulder or he mistimes his jump. Winning flicks on to no one isn’t particularly useful.

Who's on specialist striker training for us? Scott Baio?

Thing with those stat’s is, what happens to the ball after they have won a duel?

Winning headers that retain possession or direct the ball into a considered space likely to be picked up by a team mate v winning headers that bounce your dome to god knows where can highlight significant differences in the effectiveness of those won duels.

While I’m a bit surprised Barrys that high, i do often find myself frustrated that second balls seem to be frequently picked up by the opposition. Now thats not necessarily entirely his (or Beto’s) fault if they are going in to decent spaces and team mates aren’t picking up on them, but in isolation i don't see much value in those stats tbh.

The feeling of losing possession from our headers might even be mislead due to the high numbers won and the turnovers are actually average, but give the feeling of losing position a lot due to frequency (does make it an ineffective tactic mind)

It would also be interesting / possibly revealing to know where those headers occur. I’d be amazed if many are defensive ones compared to say DCL for whom i suspected a significant % will be defensive.
Thats what happens when you base everything around stats.
They dont relate to anything bar that specific action.
