2025/26 Thierno Barry

Indeed. The give him time, let him develop people are crazy. When does that stop? 27?
Also French U21s is as much of a joke as England U21s. Go through the history of England U21s and see how many didn't make the top flight.
One example. Harvey Barnes player of the tournament last summer. And yes you tend to get the odd one or two but in the main they should already be playing at a high level if they’re going to make it. Same with Brazil. Any top talent leaves by the time they’re 19 so getting linked with a 21 year old from there usually means he ain’t all that. Late developers in footy are a rateity but anyone can think of the odd example. Barry was a poor buy simple as that.

Look at that Kropi jr. 19 and already after Haaland looks like possibly the best finisher in the league. Now that is a development project everyone would love. Ok he can only do 60 mins at the moment. He needs to get fitter, stronger etc but imagine him in 2 years time. Everyone can see his talent there’s no denying it. You look at Barry and you think sorry he’s showing very little signs of anything to get behind.
The mind boggles what the scouts were thinking. It doesn’t bode well because of all last summer’s signings only Grealish and KDH have consistently performed. Now that could well be Moyes but he doesn’t have a problem playing Armstrong does he? Not good is it!

See Chermiti scored a hat trick for Rangers today v Hearts. Is it possible he’s actually a much better prospect than Barry given he still only 21 ahd his development has been disrupted by injury. Didn’t play much for us but he seemed to have a much better touch than Barry and has a better physique and coordination. I wonder what he would be doing if he had been given the run of games that Barry has.

Our scouting can fairly be criticised, not disagreeing with that that. At the same time though, it should obviously not be controversial to say that the French national team set up has very good talent id, and probably the biggest pool of talented young footballers in the world to pick from.
It absolutely is. But even so, most of them don’t make it to the top. Didn’t England win the u21 word cup or something while starting Kenny and Dowell? It’s such a jump in quality to really make it as a premier league player.

We have a lot less money to spunk on strikers than other clubs and to do the Brentford thing where you can find an affordable striker that can be profile it takes time to let him excel. Do people not realize Barry has one of the higher goal totals for a striker signed in this window especially when you consider his price?
We’ve spent 60mil combined on Beto and Barry haven’t we? You telling me for that money we couldn’t have done better?

Yeah, always squad players in those youth teams. Unlikely for one of them to be the centre forward though to be fair.

Rangers fans have spent the whole season slating him. It was obviously a really good performance by Chermiti today and I think he'll end up doing really well up there, but let's not pretend it means he was cut out for playing for us. Barry is clearly better than him.

Yeah unfortunately it doesn't work that way we already spent 25 million on Beto , which at the time we were flirting with relegation , and Dyche was our manager. Those factors affect who we can sign especially when your looking for a starting striker and you can't spend lesser money on potential long term project. Then we have Beto which initially it felt like the plan was to Beto be the main striker while Barry acclimated himself to the league , Beto was lackluster against Leeds so Barry was thrown into the fray as Everton supporters whinge every week. Could we be more prudent with our recruitment? But it's not like a game of FIFA where you have 60 million to spend on any striker you want

Duncan Ferguson’s league goals per season at Everton: 6, 3, 9, 9, 3, (transferred out) 5, 6, 6, 5, 5, 1

Marcus Bent: 6, 1.

Radzinski: 6, 11, 8

Beattie: 1, 10, 2

Saha: 6, 13, 6, 1

Jelavic: 9, 7, 0

Yakubu: 15, 4, 5, 1

Beckford: 8

Tosun: 5, 3

Calvert Lewin: 4, 6, 13, 16, 5, 2, 7, 3

Lukaku and Rooney maybe aside, none of our strikers have been prolific. Barry with 5 pl goals in his debut season with 12 still to play is nothing out of the ordinary. He’ll hopefully bag a few more and get close to the double figure mark and sadly it puts him right in amongst most other Everton forwards of this century. Even Rideout, Stuart before that didn’t score many. Some of these players had far more PL experience and some were playing in much better teams.

Of course Barry can improve but some are making out like he’s the worst striker we’ve ever seen. Not by a long shot. There’s a whole list of Everton forwards I’d rather have Barry playing instead of. I actually think with just a bit more composure she could be sat on quite a few more now, he gets gilt edged chances every match. I’ve seen Everton strikers in the past not look near a chance if they played all year.

Barry is the typical player who goes to another team and scores a ton of goals. Except he's not going to score them here.
A loan would be the best for both sides

No Niasse? Are you Koeman in disguise?
