2025/26 Thierno Barry

Just don’t buy this tbh. Moyes has never rated Beto - and Beto is exactly the same player as last year. He’d have scored the same number of goals if he started every week, but we definitely tried to sign an upgrade.
Fair enough. I think Moyes was hoping Beto could do a job for the start of the season, so he could ease Barry into it eventually. Just my opinion.

Did you watch Beto when he came on? Fella can't even do a basic lay off for somebody. It's like watching an oak tree up front.
I did.

Saying Beto is better than Barry is not praising Beto.

They both have different traits, I find Beto's to be slightly more useful than Barry's.

They both share the worst trait though of not being particularly good.

The comments were still on when I posted it, was some belter ones in there as you’d imagine.

Ah yeah, can see;

The only one I'll defend him for, think it was his third? when he got into a good space and nice connection but the defender flew out of nowhere to block it. Not sure what more Barry could have done with that one.

some suggesting he could have attacked the ball earlier, or put it in the near post rather than straight

I thought that one he should have been attacking the ball when he seemed to just wait for it to arrive at him. He was never going to have all that time on the edge of the 6 yard box (if thats the one you mean).
Probably overly harsh but it just looked like a chance a top striker would have attacked & buried rather than continue the square run.

In his defence, I think it's easy for us to say that after the fact when we know he missed. It's the type of thing where if everything else happens exactly the same but the defender doesn't make the block you get Alan Shearer on MOTD saying 'it's perfect centre forward play, he holds his nerve, doesn't panic and rush the shot, just finds himself that bit of space and strokes it in cool as you like'. You can't continually miss chances like he did last night and some of his all round play was really poor too, but I do think that one was just one of those things myself, I don't think he did much wrong it just didn't go in.

The first one should have been a goal 100%
I think so, but it's not an easy chance, he reacts fastest, running at full speed, defender grabbing his arm. Keeper is reset.

If he had got a shot on target, and the keeper saved it, nobody else was following in.

People seem to be finding any reason to criticise anything he does.

It’s genuinely depressing watching him come on after watching Barry. I can’t believe how much we spent on such limited footballers.

I just laugh when I’m watching them now.

I like to pretend I'm crying with laughter but its amazing how many times we get it so wrong when it comes to transfers.

The crazy thing with Beto is he comes on against Brighton, makes a difference. Comes on against Fulham, makes a difference and then comes on last night and looks like he's never played football. From the first touch he loses, the tackle to get a yellow, the header that bounced off his shoulder, the last chance to hold the ball up and it bounces 10yds the other way, just simply not good enough at this level.

I said last night, Barry played his way out of the starting 11, only to be played back in as Beto was so bad.

Its absolutely killed us in so many games, last night if we'd have got that 2nd that would be game over.

I think if you were offering advice in hindsight, you say to just hit it hard.
