2025/26 Thierno Barry

I'll give him this: he's shown great mental strength for a young kid who's had a horror show start to his PL career.

I do admire him for that. Hopefully the goals in the last few games is giving him a boost. It'll be interesting to see if we ever get attacking FBs into this club again what he could do.

Maybe we've rushed to judgment on him - myself included.
Nailed it in the first line. Interviews well, too: humble, honest.

Keep.

He's nicking goals more often now, which is great.

But a proper ****OFF brace in a 2-1 or 2-0 and suddenly his self-belief goes up a level.

Then things could really happen for him, and the team too - cos we'll be playing purposefully into a no.9 we believe can score. We're stop-start at times as everyone tries to get closer to the box.

I've been unconvinced to date, but think this lad's turning a corner. Do it Thierno.

The way he finishes should do his confidence the world of good.

He's scored 3 in the last 4.

4 in the last 8.

6 in 16 is easily achievable.

I think you might dial down your certainty over the next month or two.

I mean, overall he's on 4 in 22. That's not great, but given he was so in and out early on and our full-backs are so cack, I guess we can excuse it. 3 of those 4 have been important ones too notably.

As I've previously said, 10 goals should probably be his aim. For his first season in the PL that would be a good return, then look to get even more next season when hopefully he'll have more help.

Obviously we do still need another striker, to force good competition..

The above post was just showing how strange things are looked at nowadays..

He's taking his time to adapt - understandably so - but 4 goals in under 1200 mins isn't too bad. Still needs to up that but he's managing a better (non-penalty) goal rate in the PL than players like Mateta, Gyokeres and Bowen have this season.

I do think his somewhat languid demeanour at times has made some exaggerate a lack of ability in him but I think he is beginning to adjust to the league and understand what it takes to be an effective striker at this level.

It was a goalscore'sr finish. I've been on the fence with hi, want8ng to give him some time. He bought a little more time with that chip.

Highest scorers in recent seasons:
24/25 Ndiaye - 9
23/24 DCL/Doucoure - 7
22/23 McNeil 7
21/22 Richarlison 10

He won’t be too far away from most of these by the end of the season hopefully. That would be a decent return for a first season in the prem playing for a team that doesn’t create much.
That's a sad list. Some grim seasons in there.

If a 60m striker gets you 20 a season, you've hit a bargain and praise be to the manager/recruitment team..

If a 30m striker gets you 10 a season,
You've got a flop, and Manager/Recruitment team need castrating..
On face value that's correct, but in the modern game a striker has to offer more than a goal return. Holding up the ball to link midfield runners and pressing defenders plus the usual level of physicality to upset central defenders. He hasn't been helped by what appears to be a chronic shoulder issue and the lack of pace in wide areas so although double figures would be satisfactory for this season he'll need to have pushed on by this time next year or we'll need to start looking for a long-term replacement.
