2025/26 Thierno Barry

Maybe some of all of that. I mean even though he is clearly struggling in the PL, i haven't seen much so far that makes him look like a good striker. I find him infuriating tbh. Last thing we need is having to permanently stroke someone’s ego to try and buy a goal. It's like Dom all over again but with even less goals. I think we need to get a striker who can score goals as a priority and then if there is anything in Barry, see if it comes out over time with less pressure. If it doesn't it will have be chalked down as another terrible signing and get rid.
Barry has loaned-out-to-Turkey-and-France-for-three-years-before-released-for-free written all over him, let's face it.

Sandro Ramirez did score 14/30 one season so it's not the worst shout.
Hate to bring this into another thread (and I hope this doesn't come across as argumentative) - but this was a perfect example of when our recruitment department needed to look at xG too instead of just goals. He so obviously got incredibly lucky that year in a way that was not repeatable because he overperformed his xG by an insane amount.

He has a history of scoring goals every season so is obviously capable. He is struggling to get used to the PL and the pressure that not scoring goals has brought on him. The problem for us is we are not in a position to mollycoddle anyone and urgently need a striker who can hit the ground running and score goals. We have to go all in and get a proper striker as early in January as possible. I would hope the scouting and legwork has already been done because it couldn't be any more obvious. Then we can let this lad just take his time with less pressure and see if he develops into the goal scorer he has been in other leagues.
Moyes alluded to frustration in the window, targets not wanting to come. Think he knew Barry was raw and needed to develop, although not this much and the plan would have been to ease him in with little pressure.

Unfortunately his decision to keep Beto instead of DCL massively backfired and Beto has been really poor. He’s had to start Barry way more than he’d have liked to.

When he signed the Blueroom did a podcast with a Villarreal fan to get their view on him - that didn’t fill me with confidence. He was surprised Everton went for him, paid the price they did and alluded to him being very raw but suggested he might develop into a good player. It’s not like he was tearing up la liga and they were gutted to see him go.

I had the same sinking feeling listening to that podcast at the time!

Bring in capable Fb's, ( like most have said since the window ) Illy and Jack both than have more freedom whilst having trust with the overlapping Fb's.

CM's than get more freedom in their role's, instead of carrying the weight of having to clean up after our present Fb's.

Reduce "Barry's" workload, he's not a player that should be chasing round like a dog, he needs more balls infront of him, not permantly back to goal.

The difference 2 competent Fb's can provide, can't be taken for granted. They will compliment the whole team structure, quicker counters and more crosses/chances.

At the moment his game is outside the box, a link for other runners play off.
When your role is set out like that, you ain't hitting 15 goals..

Look and rate Barry, once he's had the chance to play to his strengths.

He might surprise people, he might not..
He might be a good squad player, he might be 💩

Our lack in pivotal positions, are a big factor on what we can judge him on.

Compliment Posession with Directness, not one or the other..
His brains not in gear quick enough for points you raise. Stands out a mile as obvious. Defenders in the Prem can easily read him.

Yeah, you're possibly right.

I was raising points that we should already have in place, to see the best of a striker you have to give him the best service and play to his strengths.

Playing back to goal, and forever chasing dead balls, is probably the most demoralising thing on a football pitch.

Sweet finish the other day, and that came from us breaking away, and he was facing goal.

But I don't think he's got ANY strengths to play to. Prem lge is far to advanced in fast positional play and fast thinking for him. Unfortunately is out of his depth, and I predict we won't get anywhere near our money back on him.

I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, if he wasn't wearing our kit.
I certainly wouldn't be craving his signature.

But he is ours, so we can only do what we can to help his game.

Myself and hopefully many others will be watching my points raised v Arsenal defenders and how easily they play him. Maybe! theres a chance I'm wrong as with my tenner bet with Hills - Utd 1 B'mouth 1. Strange outcomes in games this season! 😄

Really don’t think we’re just lumping it up to strikers at all to be honest. Lots of opportunity for clever interplay between the striker and some very talented midfielders

Saved yourself just in time 🙃

Didn't say we were always lumping it to him, I said chasing dead balls.

Eg - running to close defenders/keepers down knowing you'll never get to the ball.
