2025/26 Thierno Barry

Scrolling back a week in this thread and seeing the contrast in opinions is wild
It’s almost as if Evertonians on the internet are massively impulsive and knee jerk.

Though really it’s that his supporters will be more vocal when he does well and his critics more vocal when he doesn’t (rather than people changing their view).

Hes a young striker in a new league. Hes going to have more bad games than good at the moment. I think hes showing signs of improvement and I think he’s good a decent touch and can bring our decent players into the game. For chelsea he was isolated and had no chance to impact the game properly. Was unlucky that the keeper got that touch as it pushed the ball to the only place he wasn’t going to get a nick.

I think alot of the stick he gets is because he’s just not a 70m striker and that’s what people expect from him.

I think it’s ok that people state what he is now, which is a really poor striker. His touch is rubbish, he’s not strong enough and he can’t finish. He’s a CBs dream. Unfortunately, the other option is exactly the same.

The money we have wasted on strikers is criminal.
It's just typical Everton, we have set our standards so low, that useless players are given huge amounts of support. Beckford wasn't getting this support from fans 15 years ago, when he actually scored at Chelsea. I thought Barry was great at United, but other than that he's been pretty poor. Simple truth is, he's not good enough. I think he's more than capable of being a nuisance to defenders, but he's not a Lukaku or even a Jelavic. He's more of an Anichebe, he may score odd goal, but isn't good enough for what we need.

This is the bit I’m not seeing, even in the game he scored the CBs had a relatively easy game against him other than his goal - which you don’t mind seeing so long as he’s scoring, but at the minute he isn’t doing enough of either for me.

Him and Beto simply aren't natural strikers, Barry could do a job with regards to knocking ball down and being a nuisance closing players down, which helped against United. However, like Beto they simply aren't good enough, against sides like Chelsea you need to take your chances. It's been our problem ever since Lukaku left, we miss too many chances. Barry and Grealish missing cost us on Saturday.

Genuine question. If he'd been on loan until january would you take up the option to buy him now?

Still going to back him as whatever happens still has the rest of the season to show is good enough to be here. Do expect more from him and this will only get higher when we go into next season. Problem is us not having a first choice cf or well many goals at the top of the pitch
"next season"??? Please! your depressing me even more! Said not long ago - Avin a word with my mate Robbie Savage if can take him on loan to Forest Green. Wish me luck!

He has a history of scoring goals every season so is obviously capable. He is struggling to get used to the PL and the pressure that not scoring goals has brought on him. The problem for us is we are not in a position to mollycoddle anyone and urgently need a striker who can hit the ground running and score goals. We have to go all in and get a proper striker as early in January as possible. I would hope the scouting and legwork has already been done because it couldn't be any more obvious. Then we can let this lad just take his time with less pressure and see if he develops into the goal scorer he has been in other leagues.

Absolutely bonkers. Have you seen his record? Or watched his goals? He scored a few in the 2nd division of a pub league (literally one man and his dog watching) then slightly less in another pub league. Then what was it 12 for Villareal? Of all of them maybe 3 looked clean hits

Peter Crouch had very good ball control, so no he isn't.

Jesus. Wish he was Peter Crouch, it would be 100 fold improvement on this guy.

Yeah, obviously not anywhere near as good. I just didn't have it in me to do a long post so went for the simplest version. Stylistically I think he's quite similar though. He does the slightly unusual looking dribbling with the little hesitant pushes on the ball.
