Luka Jovic on a free might be a reclamation gamble worth taking as a third striker option. He had a bad injury that cost him the first two thirds of last season and struggled before that in Italy after being good in Germany. Still only 27 (28 in December). He will have lots of interest but worth at least asking the question IMO.

I haven't made my mind up at all. He just showed nothing in that game to suggest he's a player. He didn't do anything that impressed me. That doesn't mean he won't in the future but I would obviously be more excited about him if he had played well or at least shown something. It was a Sandro Rameriz level performance.

I assume he means he looked like Sandro did in the under 21 tournament he was playing in when we signed him, not he looked like Sandro on a specific meme. It isn't an unfair shout in relation to what he showed last night at all, but obviously last night isn't necessarily going to reflect the level he's really at.

No hyperbole. Just my honest assessment of the one time I have seen him play. He did absolutely nothing of note and nothing to make me excited about signing him. I remember watching Rameriz in the same tournament and had exactly the same vibe. That might upset you but that's the reality.

I said the same about Tammy Abraham. Scored goals everywhere and is still only 27. Had a poor season by his standards last year after bad injury and some on here have decided he’s finished. Personally as a third ‘experienced’ striker with Beto and Barry I think he would make a lot of sense.. especially as we could probably do a loan deal with Roma.

We have Beto on the books already and he's shown he can score goals. We could expect 12-15 goals a season from him.

However, he's not going to be on top form all season or even all game so we need a player to push him all the time and to rotate with.

If that player can score e.g 8-10 goals a season then we have well over 20 goals coming from the CF position.

As for the two 28 and 29 your olds your comparing a 22 year old with, theres no logic to that because they have no resale value. They are finished products who can only go downhill.

We need 2 CFs if Moyes target is 7th and Europe. There would be a lot of games if we reach that target.

You'd expect Barry to be on very modest salary in Villareal and that is the most important reason for him to give up life in Spain and Champions League football for a struggling Premier League team that plays awful defensive football.

But what if Barry fails at Everton? What is he doesn't get starts after having been signed for £30 million and tripled his wages. What is the market for him in 18 or 24 months? If he doesn't start for Everton, no one in England will buy him. And outside of England there are only a handful of teams that are willing to pay +£20 million and offer Premier League wages to players. If he's good enough for these teams, he's one of Evertons best players.

If resell value is important, you play your most expensive players. One season for Barry as backup for Beto and there's hardly any value left.

Manchester United thought they were smart when they signed Højlund. Young. Resell value. Two years later they can't get rid of him. They'll end up sending him on loan or to sell him for half of what they paid for him. He is younger than Barry, much better and he has played 95 matches in two seasons.

But that is why English players are overpriced. If they fail to make an impact, they are still almost guaranteed to be sold to an English club.

If a young Dane with positive memories from Serie A struggle two seasons in England, he's likely to prefer a move to another league. And with Inter showing interest, it's easy for him to say no to all English clubs. While Inter is smart enough to tell Man Utd that they only want to take him on a loan.
