Transfer Rumour Thierno Barry

Good movement and showed a nice touch on the ball in one of the clips. Unlucky not to score there.
I particularly liked the headed effort from two yards out that actually hit his shoulder instead.

Joking - he looks promising but certainly wouldn't fill me with confidence if he's the only striker brought in this summer. We definitely need a more experienced, proven striker to come into the starting XI.

Barry, if signed, would imo be on a par with Beto (if he'd have started all games last season he'd have scored 12+ goals easily - he only started 15 league games and got 8 goals).

The rumoured £30-40m fee scares the hell out of me though because that would suggest he isn't coming as a squad option but rather seen as the striker to come in and be first choice. Incredibly expensive gamble and I thought we were past those type of transfer - he's a player that's proven very little.

By all means bring in this kind of player - an exciting, young talent from abroad that's starting for his u21 national side, but he cannot be brought in and be expected to shoot us up the table.

….i like the thought of this type of signing and can see the prospect of a player like him coming straight into the side. He’s in a high-profile national team that has just got to the latter stages of a major competition, there must have been plenty of options for a country like France at U21.

A new club in a new country is bound to present challenges for a young man & there’ll be dips in form but he looks like he has attitude (2 red cards in his first 2 games for Basel) and I can see him being considered the main man.

Whatever the price tag is doesn’t put me off in the least, we finally have a new regime who I’d trust have done their homework. They seem to have disciplined approach to players valuation (we’ve seen that with Doucoure’s and maybe even Gueye’s contract etc), so if this lad is acquired it’ll be a good test of the new set-up. Very positive.

Did you watch him last night? It wasn't encouraging. He didn't even look as good as Chermiti. You can't judge anyone on a one off game but he didn't do anything to suggest he would succeed against Premier league centre halves.

Despite my jokey pic x

I think he is a great signing.

A real hard working player who has consistently moved up in his career with a solid stream of goals.

Yesterday he was unlucky in 3 or 4 chances but sadly France didn't do much and I thought he should have started over Abline who struggled all tournament.

For £20-25m, we have a great prospect who will offer something different to what we have

Terry missing those chances gives us more chance of negotiating a cheaper price doesn’t it? Rather than him being the French hero.
All good from me. Keeper made some excellent saves to deny him

Scored goals everywhere.

I think him and Beto fighting for a place can only be a good thing.

Exciting to see what happens with this.

Also, seeing as we were after Delap and now Barry -- two different types of player -- this may have an impact on the players we go for to support the centre forward.

Beat Woltemade in the air there so he's got a good leap.

Looks a bit like a Gallic DCL without seeing other clips.

We really are gonna have to be patient with this lid if we get him, young lad abroad his confidence could plummet if all the park end da's get on his case.

Beto could be quite crucial this season to take the heat off the lad and chip in with goals.

Played in the Croky cup, so he knows the city well then?

It’s 2049 and Everton FC hope to complete the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin III to put an end to the cursed striking position that has plagued them since the clean air days of the early 2000s and emulate the Belgium Prime Minister and current highest league scorer Romelu Lukaku.

It's true that France has a lot options, but they also have their best strikers injured, playing Club World Cup or turning down a place in the squad to focus on important matches with their clubs. Barry hasn't been a part of this group and would be nowhere near the squad if they had their best players available.

Also worth keeping in mind that we once signed Sandro Ramirez during U21 Euros when he was undisputed first choice striker for finalist Spain. We signed him at the back of a much more impressing La Liga season than Barry had for Villareal.

Sandro stil plays. He scored 9 goals for 19th placed Las Palmas last season. More impressing than Barry's 11 goals for 5th placed Villareal.
