Seeing a lot of glee from Trump fans about “we’ll crash the Canadian and Mexican economies”.
Which is not only very weird, when did Canada in particular become our enemy, but also it seems to complete ignore that impact on one of their pet issues of immigration.

Of course it is all just window dressing re stopping drugs - the majority of fentanyl is smuggled in by US citizens through regular ports of entry so a bunch of troops standing around the border don’t help that much.
And fentanyl deaths have, thankfully, been dropping dramatically recently. Give it 6 months and Trump will be claiming that as a victory for his policies.

Was gonna post something like this earlier. I predict in a months time all tariffs will be withdrawn. Trump will state there’s been massive concessions and declare victory. And MAGA weirdos will think he’s a genius.
The thing his fans don’t ever acknowledge is the costs to all this bluster.
Companies “forward buying” so that they have a buffer for supply delays/price hikes, long term investment plan uncertainty, erosion of trust etc etc.
Surely if you actually cared about Mexican drug cartels then using those troops in interior crackdowns rather than standing around the border looking tough?
