I’ll be honest. I would love it if we all knew where and how the $72 billion of aid was actually being allocated and for what purpose. In addition, why does that purpose supersede the needs we have at home (homeless, disaster response, addiction support, child hunger, etc.)? I have no idea why we’re giving half a billion to South Africa in the first place. If the outcome leads to getting our own house in order then that’s great. That being said, there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about things….
It could be whole sale cost, like the whole sale cost to Ukraine for weapons. $2bills guns and ammo, sent to the war with russia. The money never leaves the u.s. It pays the manufacturers (which benefits jobs, shareholders, renewed stock and development) and is added to the tab of Ukraine long term.
Certain parts of Africa will be 'long leasing' all sorts of agricultural, geological, oil extracting, industry from the u.s.
Where there is a deal, there is a margin, if that margin is in the u.s favour, they'll leverage against mineral deposits, or fossil fuel licences... etc
