On one level he might be, though if (and it’s a big if) the rest of the West can get its act together and stand apart from the US we would probably find that a lot of the rest of the world - including three of the original BRICS - would much prefer a relationship with it than the blocs / states actively seeking confrontation and global dominance.

Sadly, our leaders make that "if" planet sized.

Worse still, if Putin's plants get in they'll fall in line with his Russkiy Mir world view.

In the West, Putin already has allies in power; Trump, Orban, Le Pen, and Fico.

Waiting in the wings are Farage, Gauland in Germany, and Georgescu in Romania.

Too many people in the West don’t realise that Putin has been waging war against us for decades, using non-military tactics to undermine our societies. It is a real worry as he is closer than ever to achieving his goals - counting on the West to downplay the threat he poses.

We’ve had this conversation before, but I think it’s very doubtful those are Putin’s creatures.

He takes advantage of them certainly, but if you are looking for political influence and money then there are two other countries that are much more prominent supporters of those creatures (the US and Israel). Bannon is openly going around funding their ilk and has been doing for years; they’ve been boosted by US social media firms for years, US money has funded legacy media down this right wing route for years and dark money generally has been flowing in from the US for even longer than that.

The EU is more of a threat to the US than Russia is, maybe even than China is; it’s the only alternative form of freedom and democracy and it has the ability to expand peacefully. The EU and us need to recognize it.

Bannon who is following Putin's MO, you mean?

A unified EO is a threat to Russia and China's aspirations for a new world order. Putin has done well so far to break the EU from within, on the one hand with weaponised immigration and dis/misinfo, and on the other in supporting right wing populists who promise and answer to the issues his immigration bombs are causing. This (the boats) has been key to Brexit, and is core tenet to Le Pen, AfD et al rise.

The EU are not actively trying to destroy the US and supplant them as the leader of the current world order, that is Russia and China's aim. The EU are not actively talking about bringing down the democratic wester rules based order, which the US currently lead - Russia and Putin are doing that with China.

The west has enjoyed stability as allies, which includes the EU and the US. The EU has economic clout but it isn't threatening US and demanding a rewriting of the world order or wanting to be the global leader.

As I say, Putin is reliant upon the niavety of the west in working from the shadows I'd dare to suggest that your view is exactly what he requires to succeed.
 
Must admit, I can’t help laughing that the Canadian PM is making speeches quoting JFK, and pointing to historic collaboration between their countries, and Trump is just on Truth Social saying
