As cringey and potentially sinister the Nazi salute was, the biggest problem the US face is that it is clear that these are not adults. They are not serious people, but they have the keys to run roughshod over American democracy for 4 years. Wishing all the best to the good American people on here. Sure it's talked about and mentioned online but if you weren't reading about the names of these groups, unless you were directly affected by them then would you know they exist? You do realize that there are people in today's day and age that are left of fascist (or whatever we want to call this new right wing we are dealing with) and aren't Che Guevara admirers.

That's the thing today - MAGA and their ilk think anyone that's not with them are "left wing radicals" when the reality is most of them are quite centrist - we just think it's not cool to get in bed with Nazis, or do things that can be construed as Nazi-adjacent

I've even read on here in the past some people telling others they can't be central on a subject, had to pick a side one way or another (almost a with us or against us mentality!).

I think reality is both sides are as bad as each other and act the same as each other, albeit in different styles. These sides seem to only exist online though , I am sure in real life people would have much more civilised conversations about these subjects.

There is no way anyone can convince me that today's Left as you call it, warts and all, are anywhere near the same level of grotesqueness as MAGA

For example, there is really no comparison, ethically, between ensuring poor kids can eat at school and that those on the fringes of our society aren't discriminated against and doing everything you can to ensure kids can't eat at school and that rights are taken away.

You may come at it from a fiscal argument, but the two ideologies are not two sides of the same coin
