The “gobsmackingly bananas” climate sensationalism in the Comradian yesterday included the below graph. Why is it wrong to use linear regression to model a non linear process? Using the below linear claimed increase of 0.22 degrees per decade how long until a 5 degree increase in average temperature? Also calculate for 100.

Science isn't woke it is data led. Data can be interpreted differently however and that is why methods deductions and conclusions are peer reviewed. This makes the final statements, while no means guaranteed, of far greater veracity than ANY other comment from any form of media, celebrity, government stooges and ministers - and especially the public on the Internet. If you want to get close to the truth, read the original scientific paper. If you want to begin to understand, read all the papers that are published. If you think you make a link nobody else has seen (this happens) then publish your paper for peer review - see if other experts agree.
If you don't understand the scientific papers then people shouldn't comment further unless they state - its just an opinion a guess.
As for whomever commented on that graph - they clearly have no adequate grounding of science and data. Their comment is not something to have a debate on. It clearly should come under the paragraph above.
As for your own worries about climate change - yes, those of a certain age (me in the 1980s) were told there was about 30 years if oil and gas and 300 years of cold left of known resources. Since then WOULD YOU BELIEVE new reserves have been found* (perhaps you were not paying full attention in the "known resources" part if the thinking. But if you want to dis the rest of scientific finding on that one misunderstood part that's up to you.
*oh and Maggie T ruined/closed/allowed to become uneconomic to re-mine our enormous coal reserves to make a transient political point. Forget pollution and CO2 for a minute - it was a criminal waste of natural resources that could be used in other ways as well as combustion.
As for your other point, globally it is currently getting warmer - that is beyond refute. There are many voices in the scientific community claiming the cause is down to man's actions alone. To my mind (no expert, but have studied the topic in detail for decades and can add qualifications in geology and palaeoclimatology to the understanding) we are certainly contributing, but there are also natural factors to consider. The earth has been warmer than this in the past. It has also frozen over right down to the equator.
So yes it's getting warmer. And when melting ice caps put the brakes on the North Atlantic drift there is a good chance, without Atlantic warmth, our part of the world will get considerably colder - quite possibly an ice age - but in what timescale?
Since being a teenager I try to burn as little fuel as possible. I make no unnecessary car journeys (which is why I don't ever drive from North Wilts to goodison). At the same time I'd like to kick the Just stop oil tits right in the balls.
