It's fairly recent mate, but I think it was some journo rather than Kenwright ? It started off as the "Grand Old Lady" and the Grand bit seems to have been dropped. I quite like it, but loads don't. Each to their own like (y)

In 1999, The Independent newspaper journalist David Conn unexpectedly coined the nickname "The Grand Old Lady" for the stadium when he wrote "Another potential suitor has apparently thought better of Everton, walking away on Tuesday from the sagging Grand Old Lady of English football, leaving her still in desperate need of a makeover."

David Conn has been with the Guardian for the last 10 years or so, writing excellent exposes into financial mismanagement of clubs & organisations. Here's an old one about why Earl won't invest his own money into the club. I'm sure he must've covered Everton in more detail, just can't find any now.

Unpopular opinion: Kirkby would've been a bad move (this counts as unpopular I think, seen as more than 50% of supporters were in favour and according to that Conn article we would've had strong investment at a time when Arteta, Yak & Cahill were at their peak).

I think "Grand Old Lady" is a very apt name for a stadium which in its time was the foremost club stadium in the UK and possibly the world.

She's old and faded now but in the right light you can still see the beauty that made her belle of the ball!

I agree with all of that. Though Stones will be one of the best defenders in the league in a couple of years.

We Are Chosen

Chosen by whom, exactly?

I am increasingly embarrassed by the messages I am receiving from the club on FB and in mail regarding my renewal, informing me that I have been "Chosen".

Not only is it an embarrassing slogan as of itself......it is Kopite in the extreme.

I bet they are sorry they missed out on that one.

Please drop this nonsensical, Biblecalesque sloganeering, Everton.... :mad:

Why embarrassed? Do you normally display them on the side of your house?

This is something of mine that is maybe an unpopular opinion. The Everton fans who are so scared of doing anything in case they are branded Kopites, cause angst among other fans

Don't buy a shirt, its badly Kopite.
Don't get a name or number, Its badly Kopite.
Only wear Everton tops from the 80's, or your badly Kopite.
Don't shout too loudly about who you support, its badly Kopite.
Dont wave a flag, its badly kopite.
Dont .......... blah blah blah.

Just let people do what they want to do FFS, and stop judging them.
