The Spurs situation and Everton

In terms of transfer fees they have spent. So easy to waste money in football.

Our biggest signing is still sigurdsson for £45 million back in 2017 was it?

We might get Richarlison back for 15-20, he would love a euro tour with us.

Yeah, as others have pointed out - probably more a question of what can they learn from us.

If Spurs are a cautionary tale of anything it's that if you're going to talk the talk you need to walk the walk. Levy turned them into a money making machine and one of the biggest earners in the league, but that was never truly reflected in their spending. Wage structure never was in the same league as the rest of the sky 6, and they rarely splashed on marquee signings. The situation spurs are in hopefully will be noted by TFG, and serve as a demonstration of the crazy level of investment required to compete in this league.

And if we're gonna sign one of their players - Bergvall, Kudus or Gray.

Meh, there's still tonnes of games left. Just a lot of hot air in the press because of the sky 6 thing. It's incredibly refeshing to not be part of this conversation for once though. I actually think they'll be fine in the end - when we were hanging over the precipice, our squad was quite a lot worse that theirs. They don't need their fans quite as much as we did.
Leeds need a win asap, as I can see them going down. I would say it would be between them and West Ham, which is unfortunate as I'd much rather Spurs or Forest...probably Spurs because of the breakaway league thing.

I think this is a massive example of ‘anyone can go down’. It would be similar to Leicester winning the league if Spurs went, I do think they are going to just survive though.

The problem has been, yet again, you cannot let your best players go and not replace them with anyone. Son left, Kane left, you cannot replace them, unless you do actually go out and do it, they haven’t.

People are crying out for success and winning cups however should that come at a cost of staying in the richest league in the world. If Spurs or West Ham do go then that’s a massive example of 2 huge clubs who have been recently had European success, both recently moved stadiums and spend a fortune.

The problem is here is the players who will probably leave both clubs;

West Ham, Bowen, Souchek, Summerville, Diouf, Kilman

Spurs: Maddison, Richarlison, Van De Ven, Porro, Solanke, Xavi Simmons

They then have to try and replace those players. It’s going to be so so tough for them. But it does go to show you that you’re never safe until you’re safe. Next season for us, we need some really good positive summer signings and we desperately need to find an Ekitake type of striker, a right winger, a right back, a left back. We have to go out and really go for it in the summer now.
You missed Dele too.

it would be the biggest relegation since Aston Villa. I can’t see it happening though, gut feeling is one of the other teams will come up short and Spurs survive by a couple of points.

Spurs have been stagnant for years. Crap players, and managers for big sums because they are London. They had an opportunity to win the league, dropped thier arse, and Leicester won it. That opportunity won't come round again anytime soon. I think they'll scrape through and stay up. Hope Im wrong.

Spurs, while one of the 6, are still miles off the other 5 in terms of revenue and ability / willingness to buy ready to go talent. I always thought they'd still be too well off ever go down, but in general the middle-class of the prem has got a lot better so it's made it tougher. Add in all their injuries, and them getting just a bit too used to losing in the last year and it's a dangerous mix.

I'm quite sure they'll still stay up but that last night was probably their equivalent of us getting beat 3-2 at Burnley. They need to bounce back ASAP.

The fanbase is changing. Social engineering going on now at this club. I know that'll take a while to fully make itself felt but we're in transition and we're also under the dominance of corporate organisations that will not easily bend to handing over that stadium for fans to own and feel it's theirs to defend. We see that all the time with the lack of objects of our identity denied to us and the heavy stewarding and policing on occasion.

It cant be stressed enough that this isn't the Everton of old. The Everton where things got done on a nod and a wink and a lot of latitude offered by the club owners - some of whom are locals or were local and retained a fan-outlook or at least knowledge of what was required to dig in and get fans on board in a struggle. That's all left behind at Goodison and we now have a stadium company + absent major shareholders who really couldn't give a flying one about all that.

Make no mistake: if we had a relegation struggle in the years ahead we'd be in a lot of trouble.

Well said mate. Agree with that. Moyes staying would ensure we do what we've done since the early 1950s, I suppose. His only selling point IMO.

I disagree. It's a Scouse thing as much as it is an Everton thing. The club could try to change that (I don't think they are, tbh) but it is part of the city's culture so won't change because of a football club.

Think it's a bit of a mix of both. Football is becoming more sterile across the board in general. The feral behaviour, bearpit, blue mushroom clouds, dogs being paraded, coach welcomes etc... it just wouldn't be possible in the new ground, nor would our new owners want / welcome it. We were the last of the traditionally big clubs to go corporate, but it's happened now.

If it were to happen in a few years, I think there would still be enough collective memory among the fans to replicate it as best as we could. But in 10 / 20 years? Lord knows what the median salary of someone who can afford to buy season tickets will be.
