The Spurs situation and Everton

We have a lot of moaners, much negativity in our fanbase, especially in places like these, but...
When we were in a similar mess recently MANY EVERTONIANS stood up, the fans took to the streets, directors did not turn up, the blue flares smoked the streets out, we even help dogs aloft! All that DID help.
What are Spurs fans doing?
100% I sound like a broken record but the fans saved us from relegation. We had Goodison Park as well-and boy did that help.

The Spurs fans should take a good look at what happened with us and learn the lesson of pulling together and straight out refusing to go down.

Unless the can get Hoddle & Waddle carrying a dog, while singing Diamond Lights outside their main stand, they are goners. Their fans & players all look like they don’t have the minerals for a genuine relegation scrap. 3 of their seniors players in Romero, Van De Ven & Porro all have horribly questionable attitudes. I actually do hope they go, simply due to the fact Daniel Levy was a massive biff

West Ham with the likes of Joe Cole and Defoe playing for them as well. There has to always be something BIG or ‘unprecedented’ happening or football journalists wouldn’t have anything to talk about.
It's about context though isn't it. That season was the 11th PL season, West Ham had already missed one and been in the bottom half 4 times, Cole was 20 and Defoe was 19 in his first PL season. Spurs have been firmly esconced in the top half for ages, they've finished in the top 6 15 times in the last 20 years. Personally I don't think there's any doubt that from a purely footballing perspective them going down would be the most shocking relegation since the PL came in. Historically speaking clubs like Villa going down is a bigger deal and Newcastle had a quick demise, but at the time them going down wasn't actually that surprising. Same would have applied if we'd gone down in the last couple of years, it would have been shocking in a cultural sense but not in a real sense, for most outsiders they'd have said it had been coming for a while I think. Absolutely nobody would have believed you if you said 2 years ago that Spurs would go down this year, and not many more would have believed you if you'd said it at the start of this season.

I think the bigger question is what Spurs can learn from Everton, Last night they were at home 2 down to Palace at half time, and a lot of their fans headed off home or away for a curry , a few years ago we were at home 2 down to Palace at half time and in a worse predicament than Spurs currently are, but our fans stayed and we won 3-2 in what ended up one of Goodison's memorable days.. Their fans have given up and it appears the players have too, they are in major trouble and could easily be in the bottom 3 after the next round of fixtures, they need the fans to drag them out of the slump but the fans seem resigned to relegation.

We showed them a blueprint of how to survive this and then sold them the player who saved us. Last night they played with a front three and he was on the bench while their fans streamed out of the stadium.
FWIW, I think they'll survive.

Losing a prolific striker, and replacing him with a multitude of good-but-not-what-they-need forward players, suffering on the pitch and flirting with relegation in the years that follow as a result.

All sounds a bit familiar.

Generally I don't buy too much into the impact that fans have on the team, but getting booed back onto the pitch after HT can't have made them feel boss, like. That could very well be the fine line that sends them down when it kept us up.

Thought West Ham looked down and out around Boxing Day. Their fans to give them a bit of credit realised they couldn't go down without making an effort and they have got themselves right back into it.

Spurs just look in real trouble now although they still have a reasonable selection of winnable games in their remaining fixtures in their current position it's difficult to see anything positive for them. Their goal difference is currently a bit better than the others which could count for something if it goes down to the last day but they need to act fast. Tudor appointment seemed a very strange one they need to go back to basics and try to work with what they've got. Their champions league tie with Atletico Madrid is going to be a bit of a non-event I cant see that as the catalyst for any spark in a revival.

If it comes down to last day of season and we need to win to qualify for a european place obviously Everton have to get the win. I would be a bit gutted for my Grandad though who is a huge Spurs fan despite being 89 he is still a STH. He was interviewed by Spurs a few years back. Since covid he's been receiving a phone call from Gary Mabbut every year on his birthday which is a nice touch.

On the other hand the Spurs fans on the train back to Euston after they beat us 0-3 earlier in the season were so arrogant I wouldn't mind seeing them again to discuss the remainder of the season!

Forest & Leeds still have a bit to do but I think they are both showing a bit more character and belief than what is coming through at Spurs.
