The Oldies Thread

I hope you asked for pint glasses!:D
Halves - @anjelikaferrett said it was posh.

In the late 60s we went to the Brook House, but as it was New Years Eve and 'ladies' were in tow, we poshed it up in 'The Lounge'
Me and another lad...to help carry trays and / or glasses went to the bar.
First thing's first, get the ale for the lads - 5 pints please...worry about the brandy and babychams later.
We don't serve pints here Sir the smarmy get said.
I looked at Dave
He looked at me
I said 10 halves then please.
Halves seem to go down quicker and easier, well they did back then, we staggered out at 0010am for the last 86 to Garston...

(remember when buses actually ran as a public service and didn't bail at 6.30 or whatever, if you had to work on Thursday and Thursday was NY E, well it was just the luck of the draw - that was your job ffs ! )

...anyway I staggered out 22 halves to the good .
*sighs* ah youth, what a waste, I could murder it now...probably be dead before I was 28 though

In Dublin we also had Black Tower. Only thing sold in "night clubs" here in the seventies
Black Tower, now there's a memory. Used to sell it in our off license in the 1970's. Had a few of those. My sister married a German guy who was a bit of a wine buff. He educated me in the quality German whites, made me realise just how crap the Blue Nun's and Black Tower's were.
