The Oldies Thread

I was going to point out that we lived in a council house (we did). Then I remembered that when I was in the Scouts, the Scout Master sent me on an errand to deliver some documents to the Scouts District Commissioner. I had seen the guy several times and knew he was a Solicitor and a senior person in the Scouts. A very distinguished looking man. When I got to the address, it was a council house. Everyone lived in a council house in Liverpool!

My dad was a school caretaker, so a slight anomaly for us, as our house was owned by Liverpool Education Dept.

Whilst everyone else in our road had their doors done in Corpy Green, ours was Royal Blue of course!

Cooperrman, many, many thanks for those. The two main beers were Anchor and Tiger. I preferred the Anchor. On the Southampton dockings I see the troopship Dunera. Was that the one your grandad was on? I too came back on the Dunera which took 42 days to reach Southampton due to the Suez crisis which closed the Suez canal. We had to go round the cape. Only consolation was a days shore leave in Cape Town.
Many thanks again and please pass my thanks and best wishes to your Nan.
Brought some memories back to me, fwiw I went out on the Empire Trooper
in April 54.

I take a good over 50's multivitamin.

What's Turmeric supposed to help us oldies with?
I take it for its anti-inflammatory benefits for my knees after running. It is also supposed to be helpful for memory in older age . I have had a persistent running problem patella tendionopathy , pain in the tendons of the knee . I learnt to live with it but couldn't get rid , I’m almost convinced it’s gone but still wary . It’s worth putting into Google and having a read.

I've been taking turmeric capsules for just over a year now. I'm in my mid 60's & have a few aches & pains but nothing that stops me from working out at the gym & exercising. I take it because it comes with a lot of positive recommendations from the science & medical profession so it's another supplement I take along with cod liver oil tablets & vitamin D.

We're in great hands.

I entered my 70‘s last week with my usual birthday run, only a short one, but I’m determined to enter as many races as I can as a new M70 . Inevitably the knees and hips ache a lot more but I’ll keep running as long as I can , maybe I’ll stop if we win the CL . I’ve no belief at all that running will stop the inevitable scary decline you allude to but I’ll keep on keeping on . I’m running my first Ultra Marathon next week , 50km/ 32 miles. Wish me luck!

I get tired driving that far…..

I saw that on BBC catch up.

Real heart-breaking stuff.

Makes my blood boil when I hear people like Dianne Abbott going on about 'white privilege'.

And when todays politicians and kids use the word ‘austerity’...they don’t know the bleeding meaning of the word….
