The Oldies Thread

Got out of hospital last night, in most of last week. Was feeling under the weather early last week and recognised some of the symptoms as being those of a Urine infection I had about 10 years ago. At that time, I spent 3 days in bed and was really knocked flat. It was a nasty infection. Dc sorted it with antibiotics. Because I didn't feel as bad as last time, I thought it was milder, so didn't bother contacting the doctor. A couple of days later when things still hadn't improved, I made a telephone appointment to my doctor who said I had to attend the surgery to supply a sample and have some tests. Went to surgery, provided samples had the tests and she said 'how did you get here?' I said 'by car'. She said 'well you wont be going back by car as I have ordered an ambulance'. She said that it was a urine infection but it had migrated into other organs and she mentioned 'Sepsis'.
Was in hospital by early evening in some specialist area where I was wired up to three computers, had needles pushed into every spare space, pushing stuff in (mainly antibiotics) and taking stuff out (mainly blood). Felt a bit like an 'exhibit' as people kept turning up asking loads of questions and poking about Finally got transferred to a ward at 3.30am. (worked out I had 3 hours sleep in first 48 hours - by 'sleep' I mean 'dozing'!)
Good to be back.
Glad to see you're better mate

Sounds nasty. Glad to hear you’re feeling better and hope you continue to improve.

On the 21 June I.became an old aged pensioner. However I am still young at heart and have decided to work on for a couple of years in my public authority job. However today I received a call from a private company offering me a job where I can dictate my own terms and be better off than I am now but they wish to exploit my knowledge of the short comings of the public sector. My conflict is that while I believe in the ethos of public office I see those who are elected to public office betraying the very thing that gets them elected. Should I now hold myself to a higher standard than those.who employ me or should I do what is best for my family in a a purely financial term and use my knowledge to exploit loopholes.

It's a no brainer:
Do what is best for your family.
You are not betraying anyone.
You will be replaced in your current job in the
blink of an eye. Family comes first.

I agree with @PaulPowersTash, do what's best for your family. . . . . . . retire and spend your time with them.
If you don't NEED the need the money it's a no brainer ;) Why wait until you are no longer "young at heart"?

If you don’t need the money, do the best by your family - retire, you can’t buy time moments spent with them are precious.

Go for the money so you and your family are better off when you do decide to retire, you could stay a few more years in your current job but they wouldn't think any more highly of you, maybe it's them exploiting you for your knowledge but paying less
