The Oldies Thread

Remember Mojo’s but I think they were fruit flavours also Palm toffee chews that had a stripe of banana or strawberry in the middle.

FFS, I fell asleep in the chair whilst I was still logged on and woke up about an hour ago, true 'oldies' style :D

Yep, I remember Mojos. As you say they were various fruit flavours, not too sure about the Palm toffee chews though. Then again, maybe they're the ones I thought were called Walkers toffees

Memory playing tricks - not Palm toffee chews. My Grandad used to have a stash of these he also had very few teeth lol

Decimilisation has a lot to answer for in the world of 4 for a penny.
12 pence to a shilling (the now 5p) and 20 shillings to a pound. We went from getting 240 pence in a pound to 100 new pence
Don’t forget 16 ounces to one pound, 14 pounds one stone etc.

So glad I was only 5 when this happened so have very little recollection. If it were now I think my head would explode
I went through all of my school years learning the old currency, not to mention imperial weights and measurements.
Within 20 months of me leaving school everything had changed.
Currency was the least of the problems. I think most people soon got used to it simply through regular use.
Even now (50 years later) I still have to convert weights to Stones, Pounds and Ounces and lengths to Feet and Inches before my brain can picture them.

BTW @degsy , as it's your Birthday here is a pic of one of the stained glass windows from the Brown Edge which you mentioned in this thread some time ago. ;)
As you rightly suspected they were replaced by plain windows many years ago (1990s) Several were incorporated into the interior decor of the pub for a while but are sadly now gone. This one depicted Rose Cottages which stood near to the pub in the 1800s (and unfortunately it's the only one I've been able to find a photo of)

Wagon wheels did they go smaller - i thinks so-?

WHENEVER Wagon Wheels make an appearance, there’s always someone who pipes up that they’ve got smaller over the years. Quite often, it’s me who says it.

The chocolate, biscuit and marshmallow treat has been around for more than 60 years and has become a lunch box favourite and snack cupboard staple during that time.

Although there are no known cases of hostilities breaking out, the issue of whether Wagon Wheels have shrunk over time is something which can create debate.
Some will insist they have most definitely decreased in size while others will claim any perceived reduction is all in the mind.

Burton’s Biscuit Company, which produces Wagon Wheels, has this to say on the subject: “Contrary to popular belief, Wagon Wheels have not actually got smaller, most often our first Wagon Wheel experience is in childhood and hence our hands are much smaller.”
Which side are you on? Are you happy to believe the claim Wagon Wheels have stayed the same size or do you think there is mischief afoot and they are being made smaller now than they used to be?
gtf. Oops sorry, I say old bean I think that maybe a terminalogical inexactitude on behalf of Burton's.
Edit; I've had a word with the ad and he says they were bigger.
Didn't they used to be 1offs, individually wrapped...and 3 inches wide...the ALDI Coach Wheels barely make 2 ins

Got out of hospital last night, in most of last week. Was feeling under the weather early last week and recognised some of the symptoms as being those of a Urine infection I had about 10 years ago. At that time, I spent 3 days in bed and was really knocked flat. It was a nasty infection. Dc sorted it with antibiotics. Because I didn't feel as bad as last time, I thought it was milder, so didn't bother contacting the doctor. A couple of days later when things still hadn't improved, I made a telephone appointment to my doctor who said I had to attend the surgery to supply a sample and have some tests. Went to surgery, provided samples had the tests and she said 'how did you get here?' I said 'by car'. She said 'well you wont be going back by car as I have ordered an ambulance'. She said that it was a urine infection but it had migrated into other organs and she mentioned 'Sepsis'.
Was in hospital by early evening in some specialist area where I was wired up to three computers, had needles pushed into every spare space, pushing stuff in (mainly antibiotics) and taking stuff out (mainly blood). Felt a bit like an 'exhibit' as people kept turning up asking loads of questions and poking about Finally got transferred to a ward at 3.30am. (worked out I had 3 hours sleep in first 48 hours - by 'sleep' I mean 'dozing'!)
Good to be back.
