The Oldies Thread

They were the days. :)I thought If You Want Blood was a cracking album as well, the production was fantastic and retained that big fat live sound that other live albums seem to lose. It also showcased what a truly awesome live band they are.

Totally agree. Back then I was laughed at for liking them so much, they were so far from being cool! Now, the whole world loves them.

Interesting observation, I am convinced Live Wire is a rip off of a Roxy Music one released a year or so before. Play them together and you will see what I mean. (Will pop back soon with the actual song ffs.)

Yes, I got the same treatment. My mates were listening to The Jam and SKA at the time so I got called a wool "cos that's what they listen to". But I like bikes as well so AC/DC went hand in hand with that.
Surprisingly it's not all rock music though as I did get into what my mates were listening to as well, in fact The Best of the Beat is in the car cd atm.

Same. My music collection is very varied. Remember one weekend back in the day, saw The Stray Cats on Friday night, Don Maclean on Saturday, and Motorhead on Sunday night! Magic days.

The sort of bands that you could see in most cities back then was incredible, now its just the sheds they play. Bristol hasnt got one, so other than a few at Ashton Gate, its Cardiff or Birmingham. Shame.

Lol good job it was in that order as lets face it if Motorhead were first you wouldn't have heard much of the other two.

It is a shame that generally speaking the bigger bands only play bigger venues, but there are some good up and coming bands still to be seen around the pubs and clubs. A few years back I saw a really good band called The A Team from Ellesmere Port in a pub and they were a Blues Bros tribute, there was about 8-9 of them.......trumpets, trombones the lot, brilliant night.

Surely there are bands playing in pubs in Bristol.

Transfered this from the crimes against food thread...not that its a crime, just a snap shot of 1960s culinary history.
Street food is trendy now isnt it?
Sod your Ho Chi Mihn Citys or your Bangkoks

Buy a vienna loaf (4d - in old money) from a little open all hours type grocers shop halfway down Islington ( when it was a proper street with shops and houses, not a near motorway in an urban blight)
Pull it in half, you and your mate have half each, pull the bread out the middle and scoff that, then get a bag of chips, well salt and vinegared and stuff the chips in the bread container made previously.
Dive down a little back road, scoff chips and bread, have a crafty smoke and perv on the girls sewing in the sweat shop then back to school.

You know the way you think you know some fact or other as gospel...but find out it was completely wrong

There’s a photographer , Martin Parr , who’s got some photos of the Manchester lodges if you’re feeling nostalgic. They’re probably online.

In 1949 a gang of us had gone on the tram to Kirby. It was all countryside and woods then. We went walking down the country lanes and after an hour or two we were starving so we went in a small bread shop in a village to buy a loaf. What we had forgotten though was that bread had just gone back on ration, so we couldn't buy one as we had no coupons. Can't remember ever being so hungry as I was by the time we got home.
