The Oldies Thread

Survival of the less stupid though. Look at what wrapping kids in cotton wool has given us instead.
We used to play on the railway too, putting halfpennys on the line to get squashed. Must've given the drivers a heart attack.
The express to London - The Red Rose, used to thread its way out of Lime street, EdgeHill, Wavertree then start to wind it up on the long straight from Mossley Hill.
By the time it went past our house, with the coal tender freshly loaded up to over flowing it was going lickety split about 80mph
It used to lose coal from the over filled tender, great big lumps of top grade welsh coal, my gran used to send us on the railway to pick it up. Some of it that big it took two to carry it. Then we had the job of smashing it up with a lump hammer.
Smash that to bits with a hammer kids - 9year old heaven.

You tell a lovely story there.

This would have been as the train first emerged from Woodside station where it would then join the Rock Ferry line onwards to Chester just past Green Lane.
The coke works shown used to sell bags of the stuff to the public on Thursday night. I used to walk down the hill from Tranmere with my mam using my younger sister's push chair to bring the stuff back up the road.

I'll raise you Neil Young 1973,my then girlfriend worked for the Daily Post and got free tickets,we went to the pub first and discussed if it was another drink or the support group, which ended up being the Eagles.
I will see you. I have Mott the Hoople at the Stadium , Liverpool. November 1973. Waited until the support was finished before going in.
That Queen were never going to amount to anything!

....I really like Mott the Hoople, I saw Elton John at the Empire around 1973 but my mother-in-law trumped that when mentioned to me the other day that she saw Nat King Cole there. Not sure when it was, but she’s 91.

I was at that gig but I think it was 1975, at the Empire....Young was going through his moody phase and didn't play any of his back catalogue......the Eagles blew him offstage
