The replacement rate, whereby the population remains constant, is 2.1. The current birthrate in the UK is 1.6.

And ever since the boomers, (as infants) briefly mucked it up, the generational balance between age groups has been pretty constant.

Indeed, it's broadly expected that the population will start to decline once the boomer generation dies off, while in countries like Italy, Hungary, Japan, and Russia it's already doing so. For instance, Bulgaria is expected to see its population fall by around 20% between now and 2050.

What folk forget though, (decline as the boomers die off), is they did actually breed themselves, hence their legacy isnt just pop music and cheap cruises, its more folk in every age group since. Hence the balance is pretty much the same as it always has been. Although the numbers are higher.

I have no idea if the boomer thing happened in the countries you mention, post war. Nor if immigration is taking up the slack like we have, kinda, here. Somehow, Italy aside, I doubt it.

Always assuming to see people equate their ability/inability to get a GP appointment with immigration.

As though immigration does not provide GPs or Primary Care staff (it hovers at around 25-30% in the NHS) and they are taking up all the appointments in hospitals and GPs (they use much fewer because somewhat unsurprisingly they are younger and healthier and struggle to access the services).

There's no evidence that migration reduces the quality of NHS services locally or nationally, in fact it contributes quite significantly to the ability of health and social care in the UK to function at all.

In my experience, (hospital rather than GPs), indiginous Brits were the minority of staff in the NHS. (senior nursing and consultants). Once you drop down the care need ladder, the balance kinda leveled out, and the more basic nursing, physio, and discharge staff were apx 80% brit.

That said, I live in one of the most multi cultural cities in the UK.

You're Bristol aren't you?

Yeah. When Nikki was in ICU, (5 weeks, so quite a decent sample), I can recall 1 consultant, and 2 ICU nurses who were obviously Brits. Like, I didnt count them or ask them for ID, but that is my recollection. Even if I am 100% out, its still the vast minority.

And it was polar opposite as she drifted down the care need ladder. They were all fantastic, but this was my response to the reliance the NHS has on the forens. Who we, apparently, dont want nor need.

Conversely when our youngest was born we saw no English doctors and we're currently seeing two separate consultants who are European.

I think it's a lottery sometimes.

I’m not a fan of him or his politics. But if he wins Sunak would be the first PM in 12 years with a modicum of intelligence.

Both of them saying what they will do with absolutely nothing to say how they will do it. Sure there must be a button in number 10 tgat says 'reduce inflation' that they think they can just press.

Lots of talk, no substance
