Simple supply and demand. If you want homes to be cheaper, you need to make more of them.

It’s all about location, work availability and the availability of land. A typical house in London would cost £200k to £300k to build, in materials and Labour, and a flat a lot less. It’s the land however that turns the sale price into £1.5-£2M or £500k to £700k…

The reality is we are a small island with a massive population.

At some stage immigration needs to be capped and a 2 child policy put in place to lower the number of mouths to feed over future generations. Greenbelt land is being lost everywhere its unsustainable in the long term.

Nothing worse than seeing scratters who I used to knock around with at school having 4-5 kids that'll all likely grow up and need social housing themselves.

System is broken.

*sigh

Your solution to a problem is to keep building until there is nothing left mate.

Haven't we learned our lessons with SARS, MERS and COVID of encroaching into nature - at some stage they'll be no forests, woods, green belt land left and then what? Build inflatable houses off the coast?

At some stage these useless politicians have to realise the human population is growing out of control and you're starting to see the strain and the effects of it all from new viruses springing up everywhere to deforestation to not enough resources to go around.

This country hasn't got a leader willing to make shrewd decisions for the long term good its all populism and for the "now" vote.

What is it 300,000 a year of new builds is needed. Taylor Wimpy one of largest house builder built just 15,000 and had bumper profits, no way in the world do these companies what their money making tree pruned it suits them and greed very nicely.

Don’t make me quote all your assertion that Covid had come from a lab you flip flop bloater.

I have no doubt it got out of that Wuhan lab - but it certainly wasn't created in there.

The ecosystem is slowly being destroyed but people dont care as all they think about is the "now" not what hell hole world our grandkids and their grandkids will be living in with little resources, no nature, 8 week delays for a doctors appointment, no school places, fewer jobs, crazy house prices, having to wear face masks eveywhere to avoid the lurgy.

If I was in charge - 2 child policy across the board and if you break the rule it's mandatory sterilisation man or woman.

Given that 6% of the UK's land is currently built on, we'd need to have a population just north of 1 billion before we needed to resort to floating houses you massive plum.

Ffs man. The current birth rate in the UK is 1.65 lol Please look both ways before you cross the road. Maybe take someone with you to be sure. Incidentally, across the entire OECD the average is 1.66.

But the road you advocate means that will rise and rise until that 6% is 60%.

It may take 50, 100, 200 years but it will get there thats my point.

Your policy is that mirrored by politicians reactions to global warming - they knew climate change was an issue decades ago but the lazy attitude of "oh well I'll be gone by the time the poo hits the fan" has us where we currently are.

We need to start somewhere, build houses of course but take action to reduce the increasing demand/pressure on resources.

All these new builds springing up - where are the GP surgeries and schools being built to support them ?

The replacement rate, whereby the population remains constant, is 2.1. The current birthrate in the UK is 1.6.
