Really? So do you think everything in the country is fine and dandy despite you twenty minutes ago wanting to bin off every politician in the parliament?

There are lots wrong with this country, and my position has always been that we have the lowest calibre of politicians, government and opposition for twenty odd years.….

So why the blind defence of Boris Johnson?

Anyway it’s Sunday evening and I’ve got work tomorrow so I’m bowing out for now. Will be attempting to build more social/ affordable housing with grant rates less than half than when labour were in power (not even allowing for inflation) and with construction cost inflation totally out of control such that main contractors can’t get costs fixed for products such as concrete and aggregates from one day to the next ( yes really, phone up for your daily price) so I’m going to need to be as fresh as possible. We love a development on old pub sites though so if things turn for the worse send me a PM and I’ll get you a free feasibility done for you. ;)

I‘m thinking four or five large houses plus the pub……

I would only blame them if they weren’t doing their job properly. Someone on here going on about reading and writing is not down to the minister. That’s down to the teacher. The other year during lockdown I got my granddaughteuite a high level, then she went back to school and it went downhill. There were no ministers involved, just teachers….

It's good you read with your granddaughter mate (strangely when I was a teacher, parents would ask me what to do additionally with their kids, I'd say read with them and talk to them. They'd always feel underwhelmed, but it does a lot of good).

But honestly, resources and priorities make a big difference mate. If you have 22 in a class over 32, it makes a huge difference on the amount you can do with kids. And also, if there is time put in the calendar to do it, I.e ministers prioritise it, it would help.

I dont think theres a structural problem with teachers, but if that's the view, surely ministers need to incentivise better people to go into the profession? I always think, those at the top have to take some responsibility, right?

I see the dangerous amoral halfwits are starting to use ECHR as a "Us vs Them" calling much akin to Brexit. I'd like to think the country isn't so stupid to fall for it, but it did once already and we're paying the price (literally).

I dont think it has ever been so important for this country to change governments asap. Boris was bad, really bad, but I genuinely fear at what the rest of these Tory clowns are capable of.

Meanwhile, can Pete go a day without trying to deflect to Starmer?

It's not "the country" though, it's 200,000 Conservative party members, who presumably are already bought and sold on this crap anyway.

….I was 41 years a Civil Servant and it always stagnates under Conservative control.

There’s a key word here - SERVICE. National Health SERVICE; Police SERVICE; Fire SERVICE; Education SERVICE: Social SERVICES; all public SERVICES.

The more you put in, the more you get out. It’s simple. Shapps was asked this morning how he would pay for his policy of tax cuts & he said ‘smaller Government’. In other words further cuts to public services. The service offering under Thatcher was the worst.

Its Thatcherism, it’s small government. Services aren’t profit making, they will suffer. Don’t blame the teachers, civil servants and GPs.
Very well said mate
