The Moyes influence on Everton.

Without David Moyes would we be one of 7 clubs never to be relegated from the Premier League? I doubt it very much, so on that count alone we should be very grateful. I'm not sure what happened at the end and his year at MU was a disaster, but for me, he maintained us as a Premier Club which given the resources available throughout his tenure was no little achievement.

Slightly better than that I'm sure you'd agree. Regular top 6 finishes aren't a distant memory just yet and hopefully under the present management are set to continue.

Ginger ballbag was what was needed at the time and worked wonders for a spell but hopefully thats all the past now and we can grow and kick on. Thankfully bobby is doing his best to change the plucky little everton image and mentality

It would really help in this thread if you left out the insults. ;)

we're everton! we don't do relegation!

It takes some going to win the daily daftest post award when Adversus is in wind up mode but that's just secured it I reckon..

It's hard for a few of Roberto's fanatics to accept that Moyes laid the foundations for him, so that sort of thing is always going to appear together with insults.

Why some fans can't accept that both managers are/were good for the football club is perplexing, especially given the progress that the former achieved.

This really. Moyes kept us up and set up a solid foundation, and now it's up to Bobby to continue the trend and keep getting better. Hopefully this is the case.

Moyes, however, did leave us with an ageing squad and we're pretty much still working on fixing that...

Great manager and we have a lot to be thankful for from him as he managed the club on a shoestring budget where many others would have seen us relegated.

That being said, he lacked ambition and the ability to see beyond the pennies and the current season's 40 point goal. Martinez understands that a big part of the stature of a club, and therefore your ability to attract and keep players, is perception. Moyes was clueless about how to raise our profile and in fact on many occasions said things to lower it. Whether he simply didn t see it as important or was attempting to set a lower bar for himself i dont know. It's not in keeping with the words on the crest though. He was just about the perfect manager for Bill Kenwrights everton; it's a shame we cant get an owner that matches the current managers ambition.

Was excellent for us ..... Had no money at all.... If he had stayed and got the financial backing that Martinez has now.... I would have loved to seen what he could have done... He was mostly, excellent regarding signing players IMO

He was what we needed at the right time but stayed four years more than he should have, and belittled us during that period then him his new position trying to buy our players.

He will be afforded a sound reception when he returns from time to time but great Everton managers win stuff and believe that Everton should be winning stuff, neither of which applied to him.
Stop posting utter logic like this my friend.
Totally unbecoming of your alias on this site...

Anybody who doubts the fantastic job that DM did should refresh their memories by referring to the thread on Everton's finanaces. His signings were for the most part on the money. And a number of them financed the upgrade that we saw in quality since he took over. This upgrade was not financed by Billy Liar and the other zombie directors. Even now EFC still has the Stones money to bank on in a year or two.
However DM was human. The abject surrender to LFC at Wembley is still sore in my mind. Playing Neville so many times was a disgrace. Not unloading Hibbert is another. But usually he had a plan and he made it an interesting decade when any other manager, working under a Flim Man Man Kenright, would surely have done worse. Just for a minure consider all the no-hopers employed by Sunderland, Newcastle, Villa, WHU over the same period.
