The 'Left Wide Forward' Position

Lets use a hypothetical and say the brazilians click instantly with Richarlison left and Bernard central...Walcott missee a game, its not ideal to move bernard over + lookman isnt great there...

What do we do?

If Lookman stays it will be interesting as Silva will need to give him frequent games also

Simple , if this scenario arises we will play Rodwell on the RW like the old days. I think it’s great having so many wingers , I remeber the days when we were screaming for a single winger.

Slightly different position now than the traditional left winger...the media call it a wide forward.
Don’t worry about what the media call it. They still talk about players positions as if they are playing 40 years ago, eg number 6 role, number 8, number 9 etc. even though current positions and tactics are not even close to what they were then.

Richarlison has played centre forward for Brazil u20s but i dont think in a league game...

Its worth trying him there but that could be to the detriment of Tosun and DCL (i cant see Niasse staying long term) as he would need a run of games in the position i think.

Personally think that if Niasse leaves (some media rumblings) then he may be moved up top but if Lookman leaves then i wouldnt have the faintest idea.

Interesting the media saying we would allow Onyekuru to go for £22.5mil and lookman for £28mil because, if true, that would indicate its Richarlison and Bernard in the left and centre positions behind Tosun...

Ignore the media mate we won’t allow them to go for a price everyone knows about.

I dunno, teams still play a number 6 and a number 8, but clearly they arent the same as they were.

They are wingers to me, they dont play like the old fashioned wingers of course, but they still play on the wing, granted most of them dont hug the touchline, most cut inside, they also often switch wings and come central, but their starting position is normally on the wing, they will also be tasked with tracking the runs of the full back.

Yep, but it’s only a matter time before some hipster nob starts calling then a number 11 instead of winger.

Yes he did...he played on the left + centrally for them...

When you say 'fluid', teams actually change their shape and positions during games...its not fixed.

Not sure why youre then talking about centre forwards or number 10s...

He's at his best behind the forward in a central position...
Again he has never actually played in that position. The closest was as a left wing cutting inside

Dunno if you were taking the mick mate, but come on. Both Henry and Ronaldo are truly exceptional players. We're not talking that level here are we.

We don't know how good Richarlison can be....the same goes for one or two other players in the squad.

I think if someone like Neymar is rated as 'world class' and he is the starting player for Brazil in Richarlisons position then if he carries on as hes been playing he would put Neymars position under threat...

The calls from @Nymzee and one or two others for him to be tried out as a centre forward (at some point) make sense on paper and may also benefit Richarlison in getting into the national side...

Bernard and Richarlison will certainly attract the Brazil scouts...

Why cant he just play on the left wing Zat, hes very good there....................

I agree....that's also my opinion. I'd just play him there and tick the position off long term.

However, we do have to look ahead;

LF - Richarlison/Bernard/Lookman/Walcott/Onyekuru
AM - Bernard/Lookman/Sigurdsson/Dowell
RF - Walcott
CF - Tosun/DCL

I think we do need to try players on the right side + centre forward....on paper we need some options.

Onyekuru is someone im excited to see next season

Your commitment to the Lookman is a central player hill is admirable I'll give you that but lets be honest him and Bernard and possibly Dowell are the cover at RF right now. I'd agree that at some point we are gonna have to look for an actual right wing and I'd suggest that next summer might be the time for that depending on what happens. Center forward is going to depend on what actually happens with Cenk and DCL this season and who is available because it really is the hardest position to get players of quality.
