I've been gone for a couple of days, a sort of self imposed exile. But i coming back as i feel absolutely lost right now. My childhood pet, a Dachshund, died literally in my arms at around 7.20 pm today. She had been looking older recently but still had a lot of spark and showed no signs of pain until today when her breathing was laboured. She was only 12 years old which for her breed is not very old. She was the sister i never had and right now i feel sick and a huge part of my life has gone. Feels just as hard as when any of my family members have died. Life sucks at times

Sorry to hear mate.

Sitting with my little dog now and formed such a bond with him, so I can understand how you're feeling

Degsy's thought for the night.

Why does the death of a pet dog or cat have such an emotional impact on us?

(sorry to hear about your dog James)

I've never had a dog, so I don't know how it feels to lose one. A workmate had to have his spaniel put down after last Christmas. He said he kept holding it off , even though the dog was old and becoming ill. His family all felt the same way, didn't want to do it. He finally realised he couldn't stand the thought of getting up one morning to find the dog had died. He had to take two days off work.

Anyway, my condolences to you

We treat them like children would be my guess, You form a bond with them that is hard to understand if you have never had a dog

They are always happy to see you, they never moan, They always listen if you want a moan and they always show you effection

Both our dogs are lay at the bottom of the bed I cant imagine them not being here

For me, my dog has such a personality and is just so friendly and happy, they don't want much off you, just food and a bit of attention, in return you get immense loyalty and companionship.

The thought of that day coming when I lose our dog saddens me, I'm lucky he is 3 at the minute and his breed has a life expectancy of 15-20yrs so I can spend some happy years yet but still frightens me how short their lifespan is

Really can't wait for te footy to return. Proper jonesing now. You said 4 or 5 players Moyesey lad and i'm holding you to it mate. Very rarely so you say that kind of thing and I really want us to have a good start to the season.

Dogs are wondrous creatures. I wish I had one, but living alone, with my schedule, makes it tough. They just make me happy though, even other people's dogs.

Sorry for your loss, James.
