Dont know mate - but something needs to be done.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, 40,000+ dead, we are one of the worst hit countries still and there are thousands of protesters marching around whilst a minority of authoritarians are blended in trying to destroy and airbrush parts of society.

If they want the statues gone - put it to a vote and let democracy work and if the majority of the country agree I'll happily see them toppled - but anyone who values democracy can not support these authoritarians.

well if you think it’s bad now let armed troops on the streets , that’s insanity I mean complete madness and will end worse than you can imagine . Like it always does.

here’s a plan if were worried about disorder let’s have the people who are trained and equipped to prevent it , the police do so . Off the top of my head I can think of a number of riots worse than what we saw at the weekend with nobody advocating that armed troops hit the streets . Can’t imagine why it’s being talked of now , blows my mind to be honest .

I think the protesters are missing a trick here. They can have a similar impact without causing any destruction.

Target the statues, fine, but dress them in something relevant to the cause etc.

I think stuff like the bloke in Glasgow (I think) who put up alternative street names next to street signs named after slave traders etc whilst leaving the original signs up sends just as powerful a message.

That's the problem with society today though, it seems to be all or nothing.

Does that generate enough likes though? And you probably don't satisfy the needs of the I am holier than thou crew.

I do agree a part of it is just anger - but why hide behind the pretence of "fighting racism".

For alot of people mate its simply opportunism to cause destruction and for the authoritarians its a chance to airbrush parts of history they deem fit whilst doing so hiding behind the murder of a bloke in another country.

I think that was wanted in Bristol but they wouldn’t allow the word children to be used in relation to men , women and children enslaved and those dumped into the sea . So it seems attempts were made , intransigence hasn’t helped this

Some scally has defaced the Churchill statue in Prague, suggesting he was a racist. It would probably have been more relevant had they adorned the nearest mirror with the same slogan to be fair. *should @davek ponder why I give them a hard time, I recall my last trip to the in-laws, where my uncle said how he didn't want a particular surgeon because he was black, and a (policewoman) aunt had to wash her hands after shaking the hand of a black fella.

See this is the problem you have when you bang on about ‘democracy’.
Left alone it’s not necessarily going to end oppression is it?
If you have a minority saying ‘this is a huge problem for us and this is why’, you are saying the majority get to decide whether they are listened to or not. Can you see the problem there?
