Because people would rather know their history by seeing a statue than by reading a book. Why do people think removing statues is obscuring history?
History's pretty demanding if you let it get out of hand.

But it wasn’t the Baby Boomer generation that did it?
Odd that you think if Churchill’s statue got remove no one would learn about him
Correct, it was the spoilt and selfish offspring of the baby boomers.......
It’s like the kids cleaning up the house after the parents had a dinner party that got out of control.Correct, it was the spoilt and selfish offspring of the baby boomers.......
Why are they spoilt and selfish? Is it their activism and attempts to make the world better that angers you?
I’ll grant you not all are spoilt and selfish. Their activism is a wonderful thing, it’s just misdirected. So while they are happy to daub paint on British historical figures such as Churchill because it offends their sensibilities, they have completely ignored or refused to accept what is happening to the people in China and Hong Kong. I just find it a bit weird that they are more concerned about someone’s ‘feelings’ than about people who are in forced labour or having their rights removed. People in the 60’s and 70’s used to campaign against Apartheid or War, things that really affected peoples lives, now it‘s against perceived sleights or events that took place hundreds of years ago......
Well isn’t this spectacular whatabouttery. For someone who so vehemently thought Brexit was a good idea - I assume you campaigned for Brexit to be stopped so we can concentrate on the problems in Hong Kong?
After all, things can only be dealt with one at a time, yes?
Well we can’t try and change one thing until this is sorted no?Not at all. Why would we need to stop Brexit ? But wouldn’t it be nice for some of the younger folk who like to pull down random statues, to set up camp outside of a Chinese embassy and register at least some small voice of protest....
Well we can’t try and change one thing until this is sorted no?
Your argument is very silly, Pete, why don’t you go and set up camp?

My protesting days are long gone, now I’m too busy dealing with the effects of Covid. You ?........
I'm not the one complaining that young people aren't correctly protesting. Just out of curiosity - what level of discrimination against black people would be necessary before you think it's okay for them to protest?
I'm still actively involved in activism thankfully.
No, we know you don’t.I do not see this ‘level of discrimination against black people’
I do not see this ‘level of discrimination against black people’ that you evidently do within the U.K. I certainly do not see how going on about the slave trade from hundreds of years ago, while patently ignoring today’s actual slave trade helps anyone.....
No, we know you don’t.
