Re: race relations being at an all time low, an example of "reverse racism" clear as day here.

... and it's being defended widely on social media. That's the most disturbing aspect; that crystal clear, "black supremacist" racism is being applauded. Society in the gutter.

The guy has been sacked.

“Society in the gutter” lol

All that is Tubey is the same nonsense that Farrakhan and others have been spouting for years. It’s laughable, though it is also (in some cases) a view held ironically given that it’s basically scientific racism but someone swapped “white” and “black” around.

The support of it is widespread and it wasn't said - or taken - ironically.

If you condemn white supremacists, you should condemn that unequivocally the same way.

People have been condemning those views for years, including on here. That those views have been held by some idiots isn’t new, nor does it indicate that they are widespread (or even growing in popularity).

Not sure how widespread the support of it is. A glance at social media has the inevitable loud voices from both sides supporting or condemning in equal measure, as with every other topic in the world when viewed on social media.

The ones defending the comments seem to be entirely whataboutery - ‘white people also call black people savages’, ‘this isn’t as bad as past lynchings’ etc.

His comments seem to me fairly stupid, narrow minded and, yeah, racist.

Support for his comments isn’t widespread at all.

There’s probably more people condemning what he said, if anything.

Plus he’s been sacked so that doesn’t suggest any support for him either.

Check out the Twitter feed of ZUBY as an example.

Extremely dangerous rising tide of extremist sentiment on all sides.

“Check our what someone on Twitter says!”

The number of people worldwide who genuinely believe that sh*te is probably not even in four figures. It isn’t anything that would get greater traction because it’s so absolutely nonsensical.

I really can’t be bothered going through the comments in Zuby’s feed, I’ll absolutely take your word for it, that there’s loads of weirdos posting extremist stuff.

As a point of perspective though, Zuby’s tweet where he called Cannon’s comments ‘black supremacist’ got 25,000 likes, and 2,500 replies, so 10% of the number who agreed with the post Bothered to say anything. And I’d guess, a much smaller proportion of those replies posted extremist stuff. Then take into account that some of those will have been deliberate trolling and baiting.

think the bigger problem is that we take social media to be an actual reflection of a societal position, based on the small number of head cases who shout loudest.

He hasn’t been sacked. The fact that Drew Brees was given more condemnation by his fellow professionals about not taking a knee during the national anthem than a guy who quoted Hitler ffs tells you everything you need to know about how there is absolutely no consistency anymore when it comes to “social justice”.
