And he was one who actually kept the UK out of a war (Vietnam)........

That staying out of a war that was thousands of miles away, that was nothing to do with us and which no conceivable British interests were involved in anyway is listed as an achievement of his should tell you everything about him.

He's upset you hasn't he......

Wilson's governments: abolition of capital punishment; legalisation of homosexuality; introduction of equal pay; formation of the Open University; liberalisation of divorce law; liberalisation of censorship; introduction of the Race Relations Act.

Kept the U K out of Vietnam at a time when U K was still militarily involved east of Suez and defying immense U S pressure whilst charming his way through implied threats of financial pressure.

Quite a proud record for those of a progressive bent.

Then Wilson bottled it when he saw what was coming, total disaster, so he passed the baton to Callaghan, a suicde pass if ever there was one. Then we had Callaghan grovelling to the IMF for a huge loan (the sick man of Europe was what we were called) and the winter of discontent with patients dying in hospital corridors, dead people lying unburied for weeks, trains not running, the IRA doing their best to blast us all into kingdom come.

It was a bad time; I was there in London in the midst of it.

There's a yougov poll showing that amongst working class voters that Labour are behind UKIP who are behind the Conservatives......

"In a potentially worrying development for Labour, Ukip performed better with working class voters, acquiring 23 per cent support compared to Labour's 20 per cent and the Conservative's 39 per cent.".........

The economy was going to hell in a handcart before Wilson returned to power in '74 and continued going in that direction following the oil crisis after the Arab - Israeli war, declining international demand for British goods and a whole slew of Union problems. Wilson was exhausted, paranoid (with good cause as later revelations showed) and out of ideas.

The Healey / Callaghan dealings with the IMF gave a fig leaf for reforms which were Tory in nature and had the government scrambling to avoid the conflict with Unions they knew would come and did in '78 / 79 which, as you say, was a pretty poor time.

Very difficult to pin much on Wilson who had about 18 months power in the 70's as you'll remember.

I think one of the key issues is that there seems to be a discontinuation of what what the Labour Party has brought and can bring to the working class people of this country.

It's about the message, and we've failed to provide a clear one.
Think half the problem is they hasnt listend to a lot of its support for years.
Needs a clear out at the top and a simple no nonsence message that we are going to put to bed the fighting in the party, and no matter what some in the party think need to get a message out that they are on board with its voters again on things like immagration ect. Look at the EU vote the shock it caused , because they were so out of touch with ordinary voters .
Lots they could take this goverment to task about , but who outside the party have a clue what they stand for anymore .
Most people in work and who i come into contact with just dont have any real conviction to vote for them other than the always do or they are better than the tories
Cant see it doing anything for at least a decade if at all.
To tarnished by the last time on goverment and the weak as piss opposition of red Ed and corbyn, might have party support but no wide spread for either of them, making it piontless in the real sceme of things.
