At one point in 1998-99, Campbell essentially ran policy and strategy for both parties. Was in direct and regular contact with Alan Clark (who held the safest Cons seat in the country at that point).

Didnt know that, but wouldnt surprise me.

Was told, a while back, he couldnt stand Burnham. Not that some would worry about that.

Clark was particularly keen on his own progress and saw that the Tories were finished (in his eyes) for a generation ; or at least a political generation. Campbell promised him all sorts, Blair sent him a handwritten note when he was first admitted to hospital with the illness that ultimately killed him

Its a poisonous business aint it!

It's been a brutal day for the party today, but, on the bright side, our young Labour councillor has held her seat fairly comfortably. Hopefully, in a month or so, the party will start to realise that it's been in opposition for seven years, will likely be in opposition for at least twelve years, and needs to face up to facts.

Certainly is.

What's interesting is that where Clark was Kensington and Chelsea, Anderson would be Labour's safest seat as Liverpool Walton - and he's a man who by his own admission has been prepared to make cross-party deals!

All that change...

Corbyn and his inept pals have destroyed the Labour Party it's not eve.
Imagine if he was Labour leader now it would never been called this election the tories would have feared him!
no they wouldn't.

I like burnham, as a man, but all the tories would've done was spam the tabloids with Staffordshire nhs stuff and he'd have been a dead man.

See the trouble is Joey, (or not, for some) is the tories control the media in this country

Feared Burnham? No chance Joey. Absolutely none.

This is a man so expedient that he took a shadow cabinet position under Corbyn, undermined him, tried to topple him, then ran away from the Westminster "bubble " to become a scouse Manchester Met mayor.

No need to fear him at all. They'd have feared Corbyn for a while because after the first leadership vote he had huge popular grass roots support, public intrigue and , er, momentum. All disappointingly squandered. Look at it today - huge disaster in the locals, tries to go to one of the few places the party did well.... And now the main story is that Burnham won't appear along side him.
Would Corbyn have got the mayoral position anywhere in the UK ?
Seen a clip of a Scouse woman on the tv asked why she would not vote Labour - her response in typical true Scouse humour Corbyn cold not direct traffic up a one way streetlol
Brilliant true response like it or not!

I find it entirely disheartening at how many of you are rubbing your hands with glee at the situation the Labour Party finds itself in.

You're talking about the party that has a long historic tradition of fighting for the empowerment of the working class.

You're talking about the party that gave us the National Health Service.

You're talking about the party that rebuilt this country after the second World War.

What do the Tories stand for?

I implore each and every single one of you to have a good hard look at yourselves and ask yourself:

Do I want to live in a country that's run with the interests of the elite few at heart, or do I want to empower my fellow man to do better and allow universal aspiration - a country where the possibilities are endless and fairness is ensued?

The choice is yours.

I'm not rubbing my hands with glee. I've watched Labour steadily become a laughing stock over the last couple of years.

Losing Scotland to the SNP and seeing UKIP make huge inroads in traditional working class Labour heartlands during the 2015 GE should have been the wakeup call but for some reason the Labour party didn't listen. All we hear is constant complaints that the media is Tory-controlled, and a fingers-in-the-ears attitude to counter-arguments pointing out that the BBC is openly pro-Labour. Labour politics appear to now exist in an echo chamber, a safe space where no criticism is even acknowledged. What sensible party would ever put forward Diane Abbott as a candidate for anything, let alone allow her to hold a senior position and wheel her out to speak to the nation time after time? Who does the modern Labour party represent? All the election results since 2015 suggest that the working class, in large numbers, does not feel it represents them.

Parliamentary democracy such as ours needs a functioning, effective opposition. it is a vital part of the machinery. Currently, this cog is missing from Westminster and that's not good for anyone. Consider who I vote for, alongside what I've written here.

They need to take her off media commitments until the election. She's in an incredibly safe seat, she doesn't need to do this for her own promotion, and all she is doing is damaging the party.
