Again, that isn't true at all, at least not in my experience. Non-NHS bodies, be they companies, charities, other government institutions, universities and so on can offer a tremendous amount to the NHS, be it in terms of expertise, data, equipment or money. The time has long gone where the NHS can do everything. It has to open up.
I think it can still abide by the principal of free at the point of care, but it can't do so whilst also claiming to do everything itself.
The American health system is an utter mess, but that isn't the only health system out there. The Dutch and German systems are both incredibly well regarded, and neither offer an NHS/US approach.
