Current Affairs The Labour Party

I want to see a strong labour party, one that can help the country.

But to see people defend and support Diane Abbott just sums up why we don't have that. Call a spade a spade like. She's as useless as Boris and the like.

In the grand scheme of bad things politicians have done, how highly does getting figures for a new policy wrong before eventually correcting yourself come?

A silly gaffe, yeah, but the reaction to it shows more about what we expect from our politicians. Who cares that they might need to read figures from a sheet of paper? I'll form an opinion of Abbott according to her policies and ideas.

No mate, she should know the figures, it was her brief. If she walked into a boardroom in a private company and did that she would be escorted off the premises. She couldn't even read the numbers, yet you would trust her to manage the country.........

She should have stalled until she had the figures to hand, but for some reason gave an incorrect figure. Ultimately, though, the working had been done so to speak. Bit of an over reaction in my eyes.

The figures she gave were

10,000 policemen
Costing £300,000
No £80M
Recruiting 250,000 or 2,000 plus 250
Then a load of other numbers
If you cannot admit that she completely screwed it up you will never see the light.......

Na she gave the year on year numbers when she found them

Of course she screwed up. Just nowhere near as bad as being made out.

So she had the numbers.....honestly mate, don't make excuses, car crash is an understatement. She completely undermined any credibility that Labour had (and it wasn't a lot) regarding finance.......

Hammond had all the numbers at hand for his budget and screwed up big time. Now that is incompetence of the highest order. The 'strong and stable' gov.ernment still haven't explained how their budget u turn would have been funded.

There was nothing wrong with his numbers, just his policy........there was nothing wrong with her policy, just her numbers.....if you can't see the difference........

There was every thing wrong with his numbers the moment the u turn happened. The sums didn't add up and he never said where the extra money was coming from. A big hole in his budget. Hardly the sign of a competent 'strong and stable' government.

This is one of the reasons why Labour are so down at the moment though. I don't like Corbyn, and I disagree with pretty much all of his policies, but at least he comes across as well meaning and decent to some extent in front of the media. He has some credibility as a politician.

However, one of his key failings is to fill his shadow cabinet with the likes of Abbott, McDonnell, and Thornberry, who are just farcical politicians. Get rid of them, and he might actually have a bit more support. Most people would gag at the thought of Abbott and Thornberry as Home Sec and Foreign Sec respectively. It would be a circus. Imagine them two dealing with major international summits and crises...

Imagine Boris Johnson dealing with the same! Oh hang on...

Haha. Johnson, Davis and whoever the other bloke is and Coco the clown May have hardly crowned themselves in glory on the international stage. In fact they have been an absolute calamity. Now what did Johnson say about bombing Syria without the consent of the Mother of all Parliaments? Johnson is so incompetent and 'on the ball' that the Tories have told him to stay away from the election.

I agree with a lot of that, apart from I don't mind Corbyn. His gang though, christ no. No. Just no.

Don't forget home sec Amber Rudd abandoning the Dubbs amendment after accepting 350 of the proposed 3000 unaccompanied child refugees.

- Firstly, at least Boris actually has a fair bit of popularity amongst the electorate.
- Secondly, he is a far more accomplished politician than the two I mentioned, even if he does come across as a buffoon.
- Thirdly, even if you are correct, it literally has nothing to do with Labour's failings. Boris could be the Tory PM, and it would still be wise to get rid of those two clowns regardless.
