Starmer tore strips off Johnson today. In a way we've not seen before. It might not make any impression on internet Boris cheerleaders. But today is the kind of day when a good performance from an opposition leader can inflict lasting damage on any PM.

Loach is a very talented man, but his anti-Israel stance is a flaw that does no credit to Labour…..
I understood Loach was turfed out because of his support for the group 'Labour Against the Witch-hunt' which was one of the groups proscribed by the NEC a few weeks ago.

Ken won't be in 'perdition' for too long, though - he can always rejoin the SWP or George Galloway's Respect Party, should George re-form it.

But did it get any publicity?
Sadly, If hardly anybody sees or watches him do it - it doesn't really count.

If only we had an inspiring leader it would be 12 points, not 2.

Need policies as much, if not more, than a new leader. As a party activist its been so hard to put forward any arguments over the last 2 years.

To be fair to Starmer we are clearly in crazy times - look at the recent Tory tax announcement. How does Labour best respond to that? Nobody denies the country needs huge investment in the NHS and care sector. The Tories go after NI but then cover themselves to an extent by increasing tax on dividends (and that after the huge rise in corporation tax previously announced).

On covid one minute we're up as a country the next we're down and the Tory covid policy looks terrible.

For me it's going to come down to a short 6 month window next year when covid is largely in the rear view mirror (as a crisis) and before the economic headwinds really hit. Johnson will go for a snap election if he can. Challenge for Labour is to seize the agenda or hope as ever that Johnson's lies and alliances fall flat.

He or Labour are not in control of the media, the same problem is bestowed on every Labour leader since ever.

We need to worry when some of media (owners), start championing Starmer, it's not a good thing for me anyway. Just needs to keep chipping away at the Boris and the establishment he represents.

I disagree - I think that section of the media are too committed now to Johnson, and I can’t see them reverse-ferreting unless there is a massive change of leadership and direction amongst the Tories.

What Labour should do is recognise the common denominator is between all the government slumps in polling (ie: unfairness) and use that as the theme of everything up to the next election starting now.

Brexit? It’s been implemented to benefit them, not you. Changes to social care? That benefits them, not you. Government spending? Benefits them, not you. Spending cuts? They are falling on you, not them. Who is getting richer? Them, much more than you.

It’s all demonstrably true anyway, and we know it winds people up.

The Brexit thing is interesting. Whether it's a poisoned chalice for Labour whatever they do or if they could push the story of Brexit has happened, we may not all agree it should have done, but it has, and the Tories have used it to help themselves. We will ensure that the future of Brexit is one that helps the poor and 'ordinary' person the most

Best for Labour to mention Brexit as little as possible for the foreseeable.
