TBF having Galloway as the figurehead of the Left Opposition is probably in everyone apart from the people’s interests.

I mean he helps the Tories because he does take votes away, he helps the Labour right because he tarnishes and discredits anything he touches (so leaving them in power), the media love him because of that tarnishing effect and of course Galloway loves it because of the career he has made out of it.

What they’d all hate is a genuinely local, genuinely representative mass movement which could start to get genuinely better candidates through selection into the PLP. Corbyn’s time merely suggested that might happen and they all befouled themselves.
Alas he can only stand in one seat...

Glad to see Labour hold on, with a decent candidate.

I fear it is papering over the cracks though.

Have to agree with previous posters, what a vile individual Galloway is.

It's funny seeing the anger at a Labour hold here from the Corbyn cultists on Twitter.

Congrats to the candidate there - she basically ran as a pseudo-independent to avoid the toxicity of the Labour brand. Very much a local issues by-election and would have been regardless of net result, but yeah, had Starmer lost it there would have been chaos for him.

Twitter used to be decent for politics - used to have the left, centre and right often debating in a civilised manner.

Since I started reading back on there all the centrists seem to have since been chased off as its literally just far left and far right cultists rambling on there.

You lads do realise you can pick and choose who you follow on Twitter right?

It’s funny, as I’ve seen nothing of the reaction you’re talking about, but that’s because I have the likes of Owen Jones muted.

As for the centrists being chased off, well that’s quite a hilarious take.

ISN'T TWITTER [Poor language removed] LADS? IT'S SUCH A CESSPIT I'M GONNA KEEP ON BRINGING IT UP AS A SOURCE FOR MY SHODDY GENERALISATIONS. TWITTER. [Poor language removed]. FULL OF IT. FULL OF LOONS. I DON'T KNOW WHY EVERYONE KEEPS BRINGING IT UP. IT'S [Poor language removed].

It's the importance of it.

A very small section of society that can disproportionately influence those who hold the levers of power.

It is terrible, I personally can't stand it, but it'd be foolish to ignore it.

It doesn't just work one way, it's also manipulated to justify the actions of those who 'hold the levers of power' too, as are other media. In short, there's a lot of guff, and 'buyer' ought to beware.

Do you take the same stance with all the other lobbying that our government appears to be entertaining from VERY small sections of society?

Mid term by elections are notorious for off the wall results and a split Labour vote up north can't paint an overall country wide picture.
I reckon the Tories will drop Johnson before the election, regain some short term traction and take their chances Vs Labour.
But Labour can't really drop Starmer, they're stuck with him.

Think Johnson will stand and win the next election. Not as convincingly but still enough. Labour has lost the ‘red wall’ for a generation.
